1. How do I contest charges filed against me?: Request a court date to see the judge. This may be done in person or request a court date in writing (via mail):

2. I want to file charges on someone. How do I do that?: You will need to make a report with the Police Department and fill out a citizen complaint at the court at:

The prosecutor will review your complaint. If the prosecutor accepts the case, it will be filed and the defendant notified. You will be required to appear and testify in court if the case goes to trial.

3. What if I just ignore this citation and do not take care of it?: If you fail to contact the court and take care of your citation, an additional charge of Failure to Appear may be filed and a warrant for your arrest may be issued. This will be mean extra fines and fees that you will have to pay, as well as possible arrest.

5. How do I file a small claims case?: Municipal Court does not have jurisdiction over civil cases. You need to file these in the Justice of the Peace office in your precinct. For Highland Village, this would be Judge Becky Kerbow in Lewisville.

6. Can I pay my fine at the counter (City Hall) and not see the judge?: You may pay most fines at the counter without seeing the judge unless you are a juvenile (all juveniles must go before the judge). All minor alcohol related charges must appear before the judge.

7. Can I pay by personal check or credit card?: This court does not accept personal checks. Fines must be paid by cash, money order or cashier’s check, or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). You may now pay some tickets online. Please contact the Court if you are not able to pay online - your case may be one that is exempt from paying online.

8. When is the court open?: Except for holidays and scheduled events, the court is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The court is open during the lunch hours.
