It was about one year ago that we began seeking community input with our kick off at Design Day. Certainly the build has not taken place as we had envisioned – but that is not unusual for 2020. We have had to cancel our community build dates on two different occasions. Still, we have moved forward at every opportunity and, while we have made a lot of progress, the playground is not yet complete. We have heard from the community and Council has directed us to complete Kids Kastle as quickly as possible without compromising the ability to complete the Victoria Park path, the Highland Village Road sidewalk, and the Chapel Hill Trail connection, which are the remaining 2018 bond projects. To that end, we have amended our contract with Play By Design, LLC to eliminate the community build component and replace it with a contractor-build agreement for Phase 2 construction supervision and to provide skilled labor as necessary. The total additional cost to complete Kids Kastle is $160,000. We continue to work with small community groups to install the stand alone pieces which will continue through October. If you have an interest in participating with your own small group or want to join with another group, please let us know at email@example.com. We anticipate completing Kids Kastle in early to mid-December.
Like the previous playground, the re-designed Kids Kastle will include personalized fence pickets purchased by the community to help raise funds for the construction of the playground. We have a limited number of fence pickets available. Each picket can be purchased for $250. If you’d like to purchase a fence picket personalized with your family or business name, please complete this form and mail it and your check to us (mailing address is included on the form) or come to The Robert & Lee DuVall Center to pay by credit card or drop off your cash or check payment. Pickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
