Business at Palio’s Pizza Café has been booming since the ownership changed a few months ago! We checked it out this week to record the Foodie Friday video and noticed how nice the family dining environment was. All of the food is made fresh and can even be ordered through online services such as Uber eats. Check it out in this edition of Foodie Friday

Fire Department
Assistant Chief Collier attended the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) quarterly meeting in Austin on Thursday. The TCFP is tasked with oversight and regulation of all fire departments as well as firefighting standards within the State of Texas.  

A Shift was called to a possible structure fire at The Shops at Highland Village on Thursday evening. When they arrived, evacuation of the location had been completed and the store manager had used the fire extinguisher to put out the fire which was caused by an outlet catching fire. No smoke or fire was encountered, and the thermal imaging camera showed there to be no hazards inside the walls or ceiling. 

A Shift conducted blood pressure checks at the Robert & Lee DuVall Center. 

Chief Collier completed one Fire Inspection and three Plan Reviews this week.

Thirteen Senior All-Stars took a trip to Winstar Casino on Wednesday. They enjoyed a day of socializing and gambling!

On Thursday, 41 Senior All-Stars enjoyed lunch from Meals on Wheels consisting of lasagna, Caesar salad, rolls, and cake. After lunch, five Senior All-Stars stayed to watch Charade, the 1963 movie starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, and Walter Matthau.

Upcoming Special Events
The annual Father & Daughter Valentine’s Dance is on Friday, February 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lewisville. Come out for an evening of dinner, dancing, and door prizes with special guest Allison Harris from Fox 4 News. Tickets are on sale now at or in person at the Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

Community Education Classes

Fit4Mom is held on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Unity Park and on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Doubletree Ranch Park. 

Camp Gladiator is held at Unity Park on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8:30 a.m.; at Doubletree Ranch Park on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:45 a.m.; as well as on Monday and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. at Doubletree Ranch Park.

Tai Chi Gung is held Mondays from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Robert & Lee DuVall Center free of charge.

Outdoor Recreational Pickleball open court is available at Unity Park. Pickleball nets and balls are located on-site for set up. All ages are welcome to play free of charge and residency is not required. Don’t forget to bring your paddle!

Indoor Recreational Pickleball open court is available weekly on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Robert & Lee DuVall Center. All ages are welcome to play free of charge and residency is not required.

Recreation Manager, Andra Foreman, and Recreation Coordinator, Adam Richter, participated in the Dallas Vert Mile last weekend. They climbed Reunion Tower not once, not twice, but twelve times! This is equivalent to 600 flights of stairs (50 flights per climb). Who wants to do it with them next year?

Human Resources
Nicole Hinckley, Certified Nutritionist, provided information on unconventional eating plans and what to eat when fast food is the only option during the last session of the 12 week one-on-one program.

Melissa Meadows, the City’s Cigna Health Engagement Partner, held a Learn at Lunch on Wednesday over how the right and wrong nutrition can affect your mood and energy. We had 25 employees attend. 
Michelle Diaz, Nationwide Retirement Specialist, held individual appointments to discuss, enroll, and manage employee’s 457 Deferred Compensation accounts.
