Marketing & Communications
It is really official, Salerno’s Italian restaurant is moving from Flower Mound to Highland Village. Morris and Mike Salerno held a small signing party on Wednesday inside the new location. The lease was officially signed!

The budget video was shown at Tuesday’s Council meeting with the student actors in attendance to receive recognition for their part in the video. We have received a lot of positive comments on the video.

Laurie Mullens and Crystal Babcock attended a ribbon cutting event for Tax Fix Now. This event was in conjunction with the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce.

Fire Department
The Fire Department has been conducting live night burns with each shift this week at the Denton Training Field. These burns are done in order to meet the Insurance Service Office (ISO) annual requirements and are part of the training program.

Chief Collier and Willis Sanchez completed eight fire inspections and two plan reviews this week. They also attended the Fire Protection Association of North Texas (FPANT) meeting in Grapevine on Wednesday. This organization promotes a more uniform application of fire codes, local amendments, and standards by educating its membership through workshops and seminars.

Public Works
Public Works staff met with residents to discuss sidewalk, drainage, and storm damage issues.

Staff met with representatives from BW2 to discuss Public Works projects.

Public Works staff met with a contractor to discuss future construction testing needs for the City.

Drainage Division
  • Collected mosquitoes for testing at various locations throughout the City. 
  • Treated areas of the City for mosquitoes.
  • Installed drainage conversions and poured driveways in the 500 block of Rosedale Street.

  • Cleaned creek crossings throughout the City. 
  • Cleaned the storm drains around the Service Center. 

Streets Division
  • Completed the asphalt street repairs that took place prior to the 2018 Overlay Program on Addison Drive, Cannon Lane, Kelda Lane, Leslie Lane, Louise Lane, and Patricia Lane. 
  • Reynolds Asphalt Company began the 2018 Overlay Program in the Willow Creek Estates subdivision.

  • Completed asphalt repairs on Hickory Ridge Drive. 
  • Continued concrete street repairs on Copperas Branch Court.

  • Made temporary patches on sidewalks located on Silverthorne Trail and Tartan Trail.

  • Removed a tree from the right-of-way that fell down on Edgewater Drive.
  • Patched potholes in various locations throughout the City.
  • Assisted in delivering recycle carts.
  • Assisted the Utilities Division with a saw cut on Thistle Court.

  • Conducting signs and pavement markings inventory and replacement schedule throughout the entire City.

Utilities Division
  • Xylem Flygt performed annual pump maintenance at several sanitary sewer lift stations.

  • Hydro-excavated to repair a water service leak in the 100 block of Thistle Court.

  • Repaired the guide rails for Pump 2 at Lift Station 9.

  • Unstopped a sanitary sewer service in the 2300 block of Glenridge Drive.
  • TV inspected two sanitary sewer mains on Highland Meadows Drive and Hickory Ridge.
  • Replaced five water meters that had registered over two million gallons.
  • Replaced a sanitary sewer property line cleanout in the 4100 block of Abigail Drive.
  • Repaired an automatic flusher on a dead end water main at Copperas Branch Park.
  • Performed customer service inspections on several commercial businesses.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and leak checks.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants, and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Maintenance Division
  • Performed 11 preventive maintenance and equipment services.
  • Replaced eight tires.
  • Repaired an air leak and the pull tarp on a dump truck.
  • Repaired a mower deck.

Areas of Responsibility 3 and 4 swept proactively.
Responded to citizen complaints.
Issued a total of seven new notices.
Re-inspected and closed 14 cases.

Senior All-Stars
Monday: Assorted Card Games - Dealer’s Choice, Spades in the Library
Tuesday: Assorted Card Games - Dealer’s Choice, Dominoes, 42 
Thursday: Assorted Card Games - Dealer’s Choice, Bridge, Rummikub

On Thursday, 12 different senior care providers came in to help facilitate a Lunch and Learn that featured Casino games and tips on fall prevention. We had 30 Senior All-Stars that attended. After the learning portion, the Senior All-Stars enjoyed sandwiches, chips, and a chocolate chip cookie.

Upcoming Special Events
Our next Concert in the Park will take place on Saturday, September 22 at Doubletree Ranch Park. King George will take the stage at 7:00 p.m. Concert in the Park is a free event, and the splash pad will remain on until 9:00 p.m. It’s a great opportunity for the entire family to enjoy an evening outdoors!

Community Education Classes
Last Saturday, three participants attended the American Red Cross Babysitting & CPR Class at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

Yoga classes are available at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center. Private Yoga Classes are offered by certified Yoga Instructor, Rachel Swan. To schedule your private class, please contact Rachel Swan at (214) 641-4236 or revonswan@me.com.

Fit4Mom is held on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.at Unity Park and on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Doubletree Ranch Park.

Camp Gladiator is held at Unity Park on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8:30 a.m.; at Doubletree Ranch Park on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:45 a.m.; as well as on Monday and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. at Doubletree Ranch Park. Thank you to Camp Gladiator for their community service at Doubletree Ranch Park this week.

Tai Chi Gung is held Mondays from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at T Robert & Lee DuVall Center FREE of charge. 

Pilates Strength & Core for 40 is held Sundays at 9:00 a.m. at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

Outdoor Recreational Pickleball open court is available at Unity Park. Pickleball nets and balls are located onsite for set up. All ages are welcome to play FREE of charge and residency is not required. Don’t forget to bring your paddle!

Indoor Recreational Pickleball open court is available weekly on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center. All ages are welcome to play FREE of charge   and residency is not required.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding is now open on weekends! Bluet SUP will be offering daily rentals, SUP yoga classes, private lessons, tours, and group parties. Please see Bluet SUP at BluetSup.com, on Facebook, or on Instagram for current classes.
 
Information Services
Met with Frontier to troubleshoot a line that was cut at Doubletree Ranch Park that provides secure internet and phone service. The line has been repaired and we discussed options to bury the line deeper to prevent further damage.

Conducted a walk through for the upcoming security camera replacement project with a contractor. 

Performed a site survey for wireless mesh pole locations at Pilot Knoll Park.

GIS met with the Parks and Public Works Departments to provide training on the work order system.  

Coordinated with the Maintenance Division regarding installation of a new wireless AP for the Police Department in an effort to enhance their video download speeds. 

The Information Services Department received a proclamation from the Mayor and Council in recognition of Information Technology Professionals Day.

Human Resources
On Tuesday, Dottie Brashear our Health Engagement Partner with Cigna provided an excellent Learn at Lunch discussing nutrition and physical fitness to 25 employees. 

Human Resources personnel contacted various employees verifying their open enrollment selections.
