City Manager's Weekly Update

Public Works (Streets/Drainage/Utilities/Maintenance/Community Services)
Public Works staff met with BW2 to discuss various projects.

Staff met with residents on Sellmeyer, Canyon Creek, and Abilene Court to discuss various problems.

Work began on the Ladera Development, they have started clearing the land and performing demolition work.

Public Works staff assisted the UTRWD with a sanitary sewer overflow this week. An air relief valve broke off of a UTRWD force main out along IH 35, cleanup should be complete Friday, March 17. 

Street Division 
  • Replaced stop signs in various locations throughout the City.
  • Finished asphalt street repair at 100 Redwood Drive.

  • Continued installing new parking spaces at the Fire Department.

  • Technicians continued their NHI Certificate training.
  • Layne Cline attended Supervisor Course.

Drainage Division
  • Repaired broken irrigation lines and missing irrigation heads in the 200 block of Stone Canyon after completing the barrow ditch maintenance project.
  • Met with a home owner in the 100 block of Russell on dirt building up in their driveway.
  • Continued installing creek erosion protection in the 500 block of Sellmeyer Lane.

  • Checked standing water in the 300 block of Overlook Circle. 

Utilities Division
  • Will Norris attended a 20 hour Groundwater Production class in Frisco.
  • Performed an excavation to repair a fire hydrant in the 3100 block of Justin Road.
  • Replaced the 10” distribution meter at the FM 407 Well Lot.

  • Performed meter route inspections as part of an annual program to ensure meter boxes are exposed and AMA components are properly installed.
  • Dressed five areas of previous excavations and laid new sod.

  • Located four areas of water and sewer infrastructure for contractors performing underground boring and excavations.
  • Read water meters not acquisitioned by the AMA system.
  • Performed fire hydrant maintenance on several fire hydrants.
  • Performed customer service inspections on several commercial businesses.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and leak checks.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants, and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Maintenance Division
  • Performed 17 preventive maintenance and equipment services.  
  • Replaced four tires and repaired one.

Parks and Recreation
Park Staff
Park staff are currently trenching and installing an irrigation system as well as preparing to install lighting at the new Dog Park at Unity Park. 

Crews are applying weed control in several parks. 

The crew at Unity Park is installing new base anchors and pitching rubbers on several fields. 

The North Crew marked and prepped the flag football fields at Brazos Park.

The crew at Doubletree Ranch Park cleaned the splash pad and removed debris from the east side of the property. 

The South Crew made repairs to the windscreens at the Tennis Center.

The Trail Crew mowed the Oncor easement area at Castlewood Trail.

All campsites at Pilot Knoll Park were full last week due to a high volume of Spring Break campers. 
 
Recreation
Kristin Willingham and Anabelle Dunn met with local CCA representatives preparing for the 5K/1K that will take place in conjunction with the Fall Festival.

Planning for 2017 Kids Kamp is in full force! This year we will be utilizing an app based software, ePACT, in order to streamline record keeping throughout the summer. Registration for Kids Kamp will begin on Monday, March 20. 

This was the fifth week of Session II of the Spring Tennis Program. There are morning, evening, and weekend classes offered for ages four and up.

Andra Foreman attended the Art Advisory Board meeting as the City liaison on Thursday at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center to discuss the upcoming Art Festival on May 6, 2017.

Monday: Assorted Card Games – Dealer’s Choice, Spades in the Library
Tuesday: Assorted Card Games – Dealer’s Choice, Dominoes, 42
Thursday: Assorted Card Games – Dealer’s Choice, Bridge, Rummikub

On Thursday, 49 Senior All-Stars enjoyed a green luncheon of baked potatoes, salad, green grapes, and dessert provided by McAlister’s Deli as an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

Community Education Classes
An American Red Cross Babysitting class took place this week at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

A Children’s Cooking Class took place this week at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

Adams “At-Home” Kempo Kids Karate classes are held on Saturdays for children ages 4 and up. Indoor classes take place at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center at 9:00 a.m. and outdoor classes are held at 10:30 a.m. at Unity Park. 

Fit4Mom is held Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at Unity Park. 

A Basic Manners dog obedience class was held Tuesday at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

A Puppy Kindergarten dog obedience class was held at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center on Thursday. 

Tia Chi Gung is held Mondays 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center FREE of charge.

Recreational Pickleball open court is available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. weekly at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center. All ages are welcome to play FREE of charge and residency is not required.

Pilates Strength & Core for 50 is held Sundays at 9:00 a.m. at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center.

The Parks & Recreation Department added two new staff members this week - Kelly Lopez will be the Kids Kamp Director for the summer program, and Jack Gammon is a new part-time bus driver.
