Highland Village City Ordinance 2018-1243 now regulates operation of Golf Carts, Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs), and Slow Moving Vehicles (SMVs). Vehicles must comply with all applicable State and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, as they exist or may be amended.
Some highlights in the ordinance are: No operation on FM 2499/Village Pkwy, FM 407, and Highland Village Road (unless crossing at a controlled intersection); Permits are required and valid for two (2) years at no cost; Must be a licensed driver; Specific safety equipment must be installed; and are only allowed to operate between 6:00 a.m.to 9:00 p.m.
Permits are issued at the Police Department on weekdays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The permit application is required to be notarized and proof of financial responsibility or insurance is required.
