THE FOLLOWING IS FROM DENTON COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Denton, County Texas – Denton County and the communities of Denton, Carrollton, and Lewisville are standing up shelters for persons evacuated from the Gulf Coast area to Denton County in response to Hurricane Ike. The American Red Cross is operating all shelters, with the exception of Camp Copass. The United Way of Denton County is working in conjunction with the American Red Cross to address any shelter needs.
Self-Evacuee Information
The United Way of Denton County has established a Help Line at 940.566.2688 to provide information regarding available accommodation, food, financial, and shopping assistance for hurricane self-evacuees who have relocated themselves to Denton County communities. The current hours of operation for the Help Line are from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 and 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12. Self-evacuees can call 211 for after-hours needs.
Financial Donations
The United Way of Denton County is accepting cash and check donations to their Disaster Relief Fund to support local agencies identified as providing services for Hurricane Ike evacuees at the following locations:
