On Wednesday, the Parks and Recreation department held their bi-weekly staff meeting. 

On Friday, Rhoda Savage met with a resident regarding an easement.

On Friday, Rhoda Savage met with a representative from BW2 Engineers and a representative from Pipeworks for a Pre-Award meeting.

On Friday, Fince Espinoza, Shelly Clark, Chip Willis, Karl Schilchter, and Mark Stewart met with Brad Lutz regarding a Cross Country Special Event.  Mr. Lutz would like to hold a cross country special event being sponsored by Challenge Air and Trietsch Memorial UMC at Copperas Branch Park on May 3, 2008. 

On Monday, the Senior All-Stars met at the Highland Shores Community Center for snacks and game day.  (13 Residents and 7 Nonresidents attended.)

On Thursday, the Senior All-Stars met at the Highland Shores Community Center for snacks and game day.  (31 Residents and 10 Nonresidents attended.)

Cheryl Dudich, Shelly Clark and Laurie Mullens completed the Senior Newsletter this week.  Shelly printed the newsletters on Thursday and Friday.  Cheryl is busy folding and stuffing the newsletters to go out in the mail this weekend.

Shelly Clark has been speaking with Life’s a Beach regarding a Senior Citizen Discount.  Life’s a Beach is now going to offer a 15% discount to all seniors that come in on Monday and Tuesday. 

Sign-A-Rama printed Easter Signs for the Recreation department this week.  The Easter signs will be displayed around Highland Village to advertise the up coming Easter Egg Hunt on March 15, 2008.

The 11,000 toy and candy filled Easter Eggs were delivered this week.  The eggs are being stored at 948 until the Easter Egg Hunt on March 15, 2008.

Shelly Clark created and printed the Easter flyer to be delivered to the local Highland Village LISD schools.

Shelly Clark designed and ordered the 2008 Kids Kamp T-Shirt from Embroid Me this week.

Street Division started a cracksealing program through out the city. Staff finished cracksealing Highland Village Road and the Clearwater A Subdivision.

Staff are painting school crossings and enhancing the school crossings areas.

On Monday, Assistant Chief Collier met with the Lewisville Police Department to review changes with the radio antennae system.

On Thursday, Chief Tatum and Assistant Chief Collier attended the construction meeting at the new fire station.

The South Crew was busy getting baseball and soccer fields ready for league play. 

The South Crew is also setting signs up at Unity, Brazos, Copperas and Victoria Park regarding field usage rules, etc.

The North Crew fixed the boat dock and walk ramp that was damaged due to high winds and storms a few weeks back. Fince Espinoza was in charge of all the welding that took place in order to fix the boat dock.  In the process of completing the repairs, Fince proactively hopped on board the City’s john boat in efforts to pull the dock into place.  Unaware of his strength, he ended up tipping the boat completely over and landing in the cold water.  It all ended up okay; everyone was fine other than being very wet and cold.          

Thanks to Mike Beattie and his drainage crew for helping the North Crew finish welding the boat dock and bridge back together.

The Pilot Knoll Crew did final leveling of several campsites at overnight camping area.

The Inland Trail Crew did regular maintenance on the City Trail this week.

The Inland Trail Crew is rigging a 330 gallon water trailer for washing the trails.

Wes Neinhuser did rye grass fertilizing this week, as well as getting some pre-emergent fertilizer put out on some turf areas.

Tony Palesano is doing irrigation adjustments in several parks due to weather changes.

ABC Pest Control did their monthly, routine spray for this month.

Greater Lewisville Cares, Medical Center of Lewisville, along with City Staff, Jon Richardson, Tony Palesano and Tommy White, are cleaning up a drainage creek behind the car wash on FM 407 and Highland Village Road this Saturday.  We appreciate all the hard work that Greater Lewisville Cares has put forth into bettering Highland Village.  

The Highland Village Fire Department had 33 calls for service the week of Feb 22 – 28th.  This included: 17 medical emergencies, 2 public assist, 3 gas leak calls, 3 structure fires, 2 commercial fire alarms, 1 motor vehicle accident, 4 public services, and 1 vehicle lock out.

This week, the police department responded to 129 calls for service, made 81 traffic contacts, made 9 arrests, responded to 4 traffic accidents and performed 413 community policing activities.

Jana Onstead and Vanesa Childers attended a luncheon in Fort Worth held by Higginbotham and Associates.  Topics presented were the medical and economic impact of cigarette smoking and the value of smoking cessation benefits.

Martha Butz held a conference call to discuss the TMHRA Midyear Conference and program.

Martha Butz, Jana Onstead and Vanesa Childers participated in a web cast hosted by United Health Care regarding upcoming benefit packages and changes. 

Chief Tatum, Assistant Chief Collier and Nancy Sharp met with Ken Heerman and Tom Rollins on Thursday regarding new technology that will be installed in the new fire station.                                     

On Monday night, members of Council attended the Media Communications Committee Meeting to view a presentation regarding the new city logo.

A plant was sent this week to Council member Robichaux, on behalf of Council and Staff, in the hopes that it would brighten his day as he recovered from surgery at Lewisville Hospital.  We all wish him a speedy recovery.
