Sue Thompson reports that on Friday, March 28th, Mike Leavitt attended the closing for the purchase of Lot 57, St. James Place,  being a .6688 acre and 29,132 sq. ft. parcel and the City's first possession of a small part of what has been known as "Marauder Park" in the northwest portion of the City for many years.  The City also obtained Lot 50 which will be utilized to provide trail connectivity to the adjacent subdivision.  Lot 58 will be conveyed as open space as well per the Final Plat.

Sue Thompson and Dottie Palumbo met with the Economic Development Director for the City of Lewisville and representatives of the Beck Company, a consultant the City of Lewisville may potentially partner with, on planning future development of the DCTA rail station area and re-development of the surrounding areas.  Sue and Dottie shared information about the northeast area of the City and discussed how the two cities could work to identify future development opportunities and uses which would complement one another rather than compete.  Staff will update Council as information becomes available.

Sue Thompson reports that Highland Village hosted the monthly Precinct 3 Task Force Meeting chaired by Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell.  The meeting provides monthly updates on all roadways projects within Commissioner Mitchell's Precinct.  There were approximately 35 in attendance, including Mayor Smith of Flower Mound, HV Mayor and Councilmember's, Senator Jane Nelson's office representative, utility companies, TxDOT representatives and others.  Staff will provide updated information on roadway projects on the City's website.

Chief Ed O'Bara and Captain Mark Stewart attended the Denton Regional Training Academy Ceremony.  Burgess, R-Lewisville also attended the ceremony in Denton on Thursday to look at plans for the new training center and the 88-acre site it will lie on next to Fire Station No. 7 on Vintage Boulevard in far south Denton.  He and Mayor Perry McNeill emphasized to the group that the facility isn’t just for Denton, but a regional training center that local public safety officers can use to help train other agencies.

Captain Mark Stewart, Lieutenant Karl Schlichter and Sergeant Sheri Morrison toured the AMC Theatre back offices and viewed security systems along with the Security Director for the Shops at Highland Village.

The cities or Early, Texas and Sachse, Texas requested, and were provided with, information on implementation of our E-Watch within their communities.

On Friday, Rhoda Savage and Fince Espinoza held a Red, White and Blue Sponsorship meeting.

On Friday, Laurie Mullens, Rhoda Savage and Fince Espinoza met with The Wolf radio station regarding the Red, White and Blue Music Festival.

On Monday, the Senior All-Stars met at the Highland Shores Community Center for snacks and game day.  (14 Residents and 7 Nonresidents attended.) 

On Thursday, the Senior All-Stars met at the Highland Shores Community Center for snacks and game day.  (24 Residents and 16 Nonresidents attended.) 

HVA opening day parade will be held on Saturday and facilitated by the Parks, Police and Fire Departments.

Inland Trail Construction has begun on Village Park Trail.

The Parks Department and Inland Trail Crew acquired the maintenance of the LISD school site right off of Harlington and Chinn Chapel.

Joey Hardin and Frank Furche helped a local Girl Scout troop with a tree planting project at Village Park.

The Parks South Crew is preparing for opening weekend of HVA baseball season.

The Parks North Crew has been preparing Copperas Park for the Spring season.

On Monday, the Parks North Crew did a final move of the Highland Village Library Foundation books.  The Crew moved all the books that were left from the big sale the past weekend to the storage building in Lewisville. 

Wes Neinhuser applied spring fertilizer to all Parks and municipal grounds.

On Tuesday, Tony Palesano, Tommy White and Fince Espinoza attended an irrigation trouble shooting class in Fort Worth.

Easter weekend was fairly busy at Copperas Park despite the cool weather.

The Highland Village Fire Department had 24 calls for service the week of March 20th – 27th were as follows: 10 medical emergencies, 1 animal control complaint, 1 structure fire, 4 motor vehicle accidents, 1 public service, 2 public assists, 2 fire alarms, 1 grass fire and 1 vehicle lock-out.

Staff members attended a demonstration of how the new phone system will work and all the features it will provide.

On Wednesday, Chief Tatum and Nancy Sharp met with Kirkpatrick Architects and JC Commercial to begin the completion walk-through for the new fire station. 

Chief Tatum, Assistant Chief Collier and Nancy Sharp met with the furniture vendor on Thursday to go over the final furniture measurements for the administrative offices.

Chief Tatum will attend a Denco 9-1-1 special board meeting on Friday evening at the Denco offices in Lewisville.

Assistant Chief Collier attended a personal protective equipment meeting on Wednesday in Garland.

Sergeant James Tannahill and Officer Clint Webb attended Arrest, Search and Seizure training.

Lieutenant Karl Schlichter completed Command Staff Leadership Series sponsored by LEMIT in Huntsville.

Corporal Steve Rodriguez and Officer Joey Hasten attended a Use of Force training class in Denton.

Captain Corry Blount attended ILEA a Contemporary Issues and Ethics training class.

Mayor Costa and Council members Adams and Combs attended the Precinct 3 meeting on Monday, March 24th.  The City of Highland Village hosted the meeting in the Council Chambers.
