Tom Rollins and Laurie Mullens met with several different web vendors regarding a content management system for the new city web site. Tom and Laurie are receiving final proposals to present to the Media Communications Committee at the next meeting.

Laurie Mullens met with a representative from Radio Disney regarding advertising and promoting the Kids Zone at the Red, White & Blue Festival.

The Texas Municipal Retirement System hosted a Pre-Retirement Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday in Addison. Employees approaching or eligible for retirement were invited to attend. Representatives from TMRS and the Social Security Administration provided information to the attendees.

The Street Division has been making some concrete street repairs on Creekside Way and Castlewood Boulevard. These streets were experiencing base failures due to all of the rain. The rains have recharged the aquatic system (ground water) and it is penetrating beneath the surface of the these streets, causing failures to the base of these streets.

 On April 1, the Street Division closed Edgewater Street due high water flowing across the street from the heavy rains.

The Highland Village Fire Department had 26 calls for service the week of April 3 – 10.

13 Medical Emergencies, 2 fire alarm calls, 1 motor vehicle accident, 3 public services, 2 vehicle lock-outs, 3 public assists, and 2 structure fires.

This week, the police department responded to 154 calls for service, made 72 traffic contacts, made 5 arrests, responded to 4 traffic accidents and performed 502 community policing activities.

Jana Onstead participated in a web cast on Wednesday hosted by PEBA, Public Employee Benefits Association.

Martha Butz and Ken Heerman attended a Texas Municipal Retirement System Regional Funding Forum Conference in Richardson.

On Thursday Vanesa Childers, Karen Bradley, Lori Wright, Diane Callahan, Shelly Clark, Audrey Gedminas, and Nancy Sharp attended the second series of customer service training in Corinth. The class was “Listening and Rapport Building Skills” and provided helpful tools to use in day to day operations.

On Thursday Jana Onstead met with Russell Haddock to review files for record retention in laser fiche.

Martha Butz held a conference call on Friday with members of the TMHRA board to discuss details for the mid-year conference in May.

Assistant Chief Collier, FF/Paramedics Chip Willis and Barbara Cook attended FDIC training in Indianapolis this week. FDIC provides extensive training and new technology information to firefighters.

Assistant Chief Collier and FF/Paramedic Vince Jones attended a medical control meeting held in Lewisville on Monday.

The Police Department Auxiliary (specifically members Selene Allison, Debra Brod, Mary Chandler, Fred Clements and Steve Jones) received a special thank you from the council for their monitoring of cell phone use in school zones.

The Police Department Auxiliary received a special President's Award for their volunteer service to the city. Those present at the most recent council meeting received recognition and an award from Mayor Costa.

 

 

Officers Clint Webb and Jose Diaz attended Police Bicycle Training school this week.

Mayor Costa and Council members Adams, Calvin and Combs attended the HVBA Luncheon held at Celebrations on Tuesday, April 8th. Senator Jane Nelson was the guest speaker at the event.

Also on Tuesday, Mayor Costa, City Manager Leavitt and Community Development Manager Thompson met with the District of Highland Village.

Mayor Costa and City Manager Leavitt attended the DFW Mayors Conference held at the Embassy Suites in Frisco on Thursday and Friday. The purpose of the conference was to bring forth ideas and programs to share with fellow mayors in the area. Topics included transportation, air quality, recycling, green building, marketing your city, public-private partnerships, economic development, parks and recreation, and communication.
