Sue Thompson reports the quarterly "Breakfast with the Mayor" was held Friday, June 6th. The Mayor welcomed the 26 attendees and introduced Council members Scott McDearmont, Austin Adams and Don Combs. City staff gave updates on the Red, White and Blue Festival, Veteran's Memorial, HVBA Business Directory, DCTA and those in attendance gave brief remarks about their business. Two new businesses are planning to open in the next few weeks in the Shops at Highland Village: Adventure Kids and Chocolate Apothecary.
Mayor Costa and Corporal April Roppolo presented forty-nine students at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School with the HVPD Recognizing students Certificates for their hard work in the Safety Patrol. Lt. Karl Schlichter and Brian Fiorenza presented twenty Fifth Grade Safety Patrol awards at Highland Village Elementary.
Corporal April Roppolo and Mayor Costa presented HVPD Recognizing Students certificates to ninety-nine Heritage fifth graders. Officer Jose Diaz was also in attendance.
Highland Village Fire Department conducted 3 fire prevention programs with an audience of 75.
On Monday, the Senior All-Stars met at the Highland Shores Community Center for game day.

RW&B Staff T-Shirts were distributed at the luncheon. On Friday, Sandy McCoy and Shelly Clark went shopping for flowers for the VIP tent.
On Thursday and Friday, Angela Koerth helped out at the Parks and Recreation Department while everyone was busy getting ready for the Red, White and Blue Festival. Angela is a new Kids Kamp employee. Thank you, Angela!
The contractor for the Inland Trail is working on brick, paved street crossings this week.
Thank you to Utilities and Drainage for installing a French drain in a soggy area of the field Chinn Chapel Soccer Field.
All the Parks Crew have been preparing for the Red, White & Blue festival.
Police Auxiliary Olsen and Corporal April Roppolo worked the CAC Fund raiser at Wal-Mart on Saturday. They collected $667.00 in donations for the Children's Advocacy Center for Denton County.
This week, the police department responded to 173 calls for service, made 88 traffic contacts, made 6 arrests, responded to 5 traffic accidents and performed 543 community policing activities.
The Highland Village Fire Department had 26 calls for service the week of May 30th – June 5th. This included: 1 public education, 2 commercial fire alarms, 8 public assists,
7 medical emergencies, 3 residential fire alarms, 2 injured persons, 1 mutual aid and 2 fill-ins at other stations.
Corporal Jered Cameron and Corporal Onay Nunez attended Crime Prevention Inspector training in Rowlett.
Officer Oldaker attended Driving While Intoxicated training at the Denton County Sheriff's Office.
Sergeant Dennis Oliver began his month long training in Plano at The Institute for Law Enforcement Administration where is attending the School of Police Supervision.
HVFD personnel conducted 3 plan reviews for new businesses and 1 fire Inspections this week.
Assistant Chief Collier attended the Denton County Fire Chief’s meeting.
Captain Tim Moehlman attended the monthly FIANT meeting.
Assistant Chief Collier, Captain Travis Nokes, Captain Tim Moehlman and Captain Vince Jones had their Officer’s meeting on Tuesday.
Mayor Costa and Council member Fiorenza assisted the Highland Village Police Department at Student Awards Ceremonies held at Heritage Elementary, Highland Village Elementary, and McAuliffe Elementary this week.
On Friday morning, Mayor Pro Tem McDearmont and members of Council joined Mayor Costa and Staff at the HVBA Breakfast With The Mayor Meeting.
