Freddy's Frozen Custard to be Located in the Marketplace

At the June 24 meeting, Council unanimously approved the site plan for Freddy's Frozen Custard to be located in the Marketplace at Highland Village.

Also at this meeting Council approved the contract for solid waste services with Waste Management. The new contract provides residential rates at $10.50 per household per month and $9.46 per household per month for customers 65 years of age and older. The new contract is a decrease in rates from the current $12.88 per household per month. With this contract, Waste Management will continue to provide once a week pick up of solid waste recyclable and yard waste. A new feature is the implementation of carts for recycling. Residents will have the option of continuing use of the blue bags for recycling or a 65 gallon cart. A small number of 35 gallon carts are also available on a first come first served basis by request of the resident. The City developed a Solid Waste Advisory Committee to help with the selection of a new service provider as the current contract with Waste Management expires in July 2008.

Council discussed funding for the Veterans Memorial to be located on the south side of the Municipal Complex. A Council sub-committee was formed to seek sponsorship funding for the memorial. The City advertised and accepted bids for the construction of the memorial with the lowest bid coming in at $80,211.33. The Council postponed awarding the bid until July 22 to allow the committee time to pursue sponsorships.
