Fire:
Chief Tatum attended the Fire Life Safety Committee meeting for the upcoming opening of the "A" Train service to residents and visitors of Denton County. The Fire Life Safety Committee consist of area leaders of Fire, Police, and EMS agencies from Cities being serviced by the new "A" Train, which will be opening in June. Discussion topics for this months meeting included train construction and access, primary points of contact, disaster drills, Ingress/Egress and railroad milepost and GPS data. City Staff will be participating in the Rail Ready Safety Day at the Highland Village/Lake Lewisville Station on Saturday, May 7th from 10AM - 1PM.
Police:
This week, the police department responded to 154 calls for service, made 119 traffic contacts, made 12 arrests, responded to 1 traffic accident and performed 326 community policing activities.
Senior Animal Care Officer Michelle Burke found a forever home for another of our little "guests" today!
Captain Corry Blount graduated this week from the 47th Management College at the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration.
PARKS DEPARTMENT
Staff at Unity Park prepared and reworked all baseball fields for the opening of spring baseball season which started on 3-22-11. Actual Opening week end will start Saturday 3-26-11
Parks staff starting on mowing schedules in the Parks and Municipal grounds. Wes Neinhuser has been making weed control applications in various turf and shrub bed areas in the Parks.
VMC Lawn Services was recently awarded the ROW mowing contract and will soon start mowing cycles through out the City.
Pedro Miranda and the Trail crew recently made repairs to drinking fountains on the City Trail.
Tony Palesano is installing flow meters and other components of the Calsense irrigation system at Unity Park.
Staff installed new trash receptacles at several park locations in the north zone area of town as well as a new bench at Victoria Park.
Joey Hardin made repairs to the fountain at Marauder Park this week.
Wes Neinhuser attended Supervisor training class in Keller on 3-23-11.
All Parks staff are preparing to work at the City Spring clean up at Coppers Park on Saturday 3-26-11
A coaches meeting was held on Monday night for the men's softball league. Six teams will be participating in the spring league.
The men's spring adult softball league started this week. The games take place on Wednesday nights at Unity Park.
Linda Cornelius, Laurie Mullens, and Andra Boxberger attend the DCTA special events meeting for the planning of the Rail Ready Safety Days and the Rock ‘n Rail A-train Celebrations.
Fince Espinoza and Andra Boxberger met with Concert Production Services to do a site visit of Copperas Branch Park for the Red, White and Blue Festival.
The Spring Clean Up is this Saturday at Copperas Branch Park from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This event is an opportunity for Highland Village residents to dispose hazardous waste, tree & lawn clippings, paper to be shredded, electronics & batteries, and scrap metal
