Council Approves Funding for Construction of City Trail to the FM 2499 Pedestrian Tunnel
At the March 11 meeting, Council approved a resolution authorizing the contract with BW2 Engineers for engineering and design of City Trail to the FM 2499 Pedestrian Tunnel Trail Connection. The pedestrian tunnel was constructed with the expansion of FM 2499 and closed to pedestrian access until a connection is built to City Trail. The construction of City Trail to the tunnel will provide safe pedestrian access under FM 2499 and link the west and east trails of the Inland Trail System. Completion of the trail connection is anticipated for late spring 2011.
"Our Highland Village Community Development Corporation continues to fulfill the promise of trail connectivity for the citizens of Highland Village. The pedestrian tunnel and crosswalk will allow for citizens West of FM 2499 to have enhanced access to our Inland Trail System. The council remains committed to enhancements to our Inland Trails using 4B sales tax revenue," stated Mayor Scott McDearmont.
Also at this meeting Council held a public hearing and approved housekeeping amendments to Zoning Ordinance, Appendix A Development Standards, Residential Districts. The amendments include allowing a $25 recovery fee for impounded signs in the rights of way, requiring permits and compliance with zoning setback regulations for the construction of arbors and lanais, and amending the definitions of carports and home occupations. The amendments were need to clarify issues encountered with interpretation, court cases and general use of the ordinance.
During the Mayor’s comments, Mayor McDearmont presented a proclamation to the Marcus High School Boys Basketball team recognizing their “One Team” spirit and motto as they head to Austin for the UIL state 5A “Final Four”.
In the late work session, city staff presented an overview of the upcoming goals and objectives for a council and staff budget workshop targeted for April. With new growth and expansion coming to an end, the goals and objectives focus on beginning the maintenance and sustainability phase.
