Scott Kriston reports that the TXDOT FM 2499 section 4 project contractor is mowing the r.o.w. as weather permits.  The contractor is preparing to redefine some offsite drainage areas where easements were obtained during the design process.  The contractor is constructing the Northwood / FM 2499 intersection, they anticipated approximately 4 weeks to build, weather permitting.

Police:

This week, the police department responded to 142 calls for service, made 72 traffic contacts, made 9 arrests, responded to 1 traffic accident and performed 731 community policing activities.

The Police Department completed a deployment at Copperas Branch Park for the July 4th Holiday weekend. The weekend proved calm and the Police Department was assisted in their efforts by the Police Auxiliary.

Senior Animal Care Officer Michelle Burke found new forever homes for several of our temporary guests this week. "Twister" is an Australian Shepherd mix and "Thelma" is a mixed breed with the sweetest face!  "Sghetti" is another mixed breed that we were able to recently find a home for. They renamed her "Honey" and have said that she is "super happy" in her new home.

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

Streets:

The Street Division is prepared  to make concrete street repairs at 2900 Hillside Drive and 2835 Hillside Drive next week.

The Street crew removed graffiti from a retaining wall on FM 2499 locate just North of Highland Shores Boulevard.

The Street staff corrected some erosion along the side of the Oak Tree Street due to water washing away soil from the edge of the street.

The Street Division trimmed overhanging trees along Highland Village Road at the boat docks and Sellmeyer Lane from the Inland Trail to Highland Village Road.

Utilities:

Scott Kriston reports that the MSC project mason is working on the stone work for the PWB & REC buildings, wall & fence. The window contractor is installing the store front windows on the PWB building.  The ceiling grid is being installed inside the PWB building.  The millwork contractor is installing the cabinets in the REC & PWB buildings.  The roofing contractor started working on the REC & MP roof this week.    

The Oak St. GSR site improvements project painting contractor is sand blasting the outside of the tank and painting the inside of the tank. 

Scott Kriston met with BW2 Engineering , Inc. & discussed the status of all open Public Works projects.

The Highland Village Rd. water line replacement project sections 1 & 2.  RKM Utility Services, Inc. began to stage this week.  The contractor plans on moving dirt starting July 12th.  This project consists of replacing approximately 5000 feet of water line along Highland Village Rd. from Brazos Blvd. to Lake Vista.  The contractor will be onsite for 4 months.  You should expect minor traffic delays in the area for the duration of the project.

Matthew Kite, P.E. & Scott Kriston attended the pre-construction meeting for the Chinn Chapel rd pahse 1 reconstruction this week.  This project is a Town of Copper Canyon project funded through Denton County bonds.  It consists of drainage improvements and road reconstruction on Chinn Chapel from approx. 100 feet north of Fm407 to Orchid Hill Lane.  The contract has 500 calendar days to final completion.  The contractor is tentatively starting July 12th.  There will be traffic detours throughout the duration of the project; you should expect traffic delays in the area.

Utility Crews:

  • Responded to five after hour call outs and six resident concerns.
  • TV inspected three sewer lines for areas in need of repair.
  • Replaced nine sewer clean out caps that were found missing during the I&I smoke test phase 2.
  • Removed a stoppage in the lift station 7, pump 2 impeller.
  • Excavated and repaired two valves on Winding Bend.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and leak checks.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants. and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Drainage Crews:

  • Cleaned various creek crossings after recent rain events.
  • Installed 300' of silt fence in the 2000 block of Spring Oaks dr. for the Spring Oaks Turnaround Project.
  • Built 37 Gabion baskets in preparation for a creek erosion control project in the 700 Highland Hills.
  • Redefined the drainage swale in the 3000 block of Shore View to eliminate flooding.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

Highland Village is hosting the AAYBA World Series that started on the 4th of July.

Park staff has been mowing and marking the Unity Park baseball fields during the night to accommodate the AAYBA World Series this week.

Park staff has pruned the trees along the Highland Village Road sidewalk to comply with TDLR standards which states we must have a vertical clearance of eighty inches (80").

Park staff has marked a location for dirt to be placed at the Doubletree Ranch to fill in the front pond.

All Parks mowing crews are busy catching up on mowing cycles due to recent wet weather.

Copperas Park and Pilot Knoll Park had very busy weekends during the Fourth of July holiday.

Tommy White has been getting info on replacement of the Kids Kastle Unity Park restroom.

Wes Neinhuser has been making weed control applications in the Parks and medians in the City. 

This is the fourth week of Kids Kamp at Briarhill Middle School. The field trips this week included Ft. Worth Zoo, UTA Planetarium, Skating, and Old Town Swimming Pool.

Senior All Stars

The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (24 attendees) and Thursday (21 attendees) for game day. 

Ten Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for open game time.

On Wednesday, 15 Highland Village Senior All Stars met at Barnes and Noble for Book Club.

Six Highland Village Senior All Stars went to the Trammell & Margaret Crow Asian Art Museum in Dallas on Friday.

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

Human Resources:

  • The Benefit Committee attended a meeting on Wednesday.  A representative with the City's broker, Higginbotham & Associates, made a presentation to the committee on Health Savings Accounts.

Police:

  • Ryan Urbanek has been hired as our newest Police Officer starting Monday, July 12th.  He has previous experience with Southlake PD and is a TCJC Academy graduate.  Ryan lives in Euless and has a Bachelors Degree from the University of North Texas.  We welcome him to our team and look forward to working with him in the future.

Fire:

  • GIS Administrator, Rob Wachal conducted a presentation for Fire Department staff on the proper and efficient use of the new software program now available on mobile data terminals in the apparatus.  This innovative tool allows firefighters to access valuable information not previously available on incident scenes, such as hydrant locations, pre-fire plans, hazardous materials information and accurate street and trails locations.
  • Tarrant County College Fire Academy Instructors provided a classroom presentation to Highland Village firefighters on Automatic Extinguishing Systems which are found in all commercial occupancies in our city.  This valuable training provides personnel with a working knowledge of how various systems function and identifies methods in which firefighters may more efficiently manage there use.
