On Wednesday City staff, along with Mayor McDearmont and Councilmembers Meek and Wilcox, participated in a tour of the A-Train route and station construction. Also attending were DCTA Board members, Denton County Commissioners, City of Denton staff and City Council and City of Lewisville Council and staff. The tour started at the southern terminus where the DCTA and DART have a joint rail platform and from there we traveled north visiting each station ultimately arriving at the City of Denton transit facility.

Chief Lonnie Tatum conducted a thorough walk-through inspection of the McAuliffe Middle School project with the Hunt Supervisor on Wednesday. This inspection was necessary to address existing and/or potential concerns with Life Safety issues with the project.
Captain Travis Nokes, along with FF/Paramedics Jared Middleton, Tony Sorsby and Scott Taylor, conducted interviews for the open Firefighter Paramedic Position.
DFW Communications was at the Fire Station for the past three days performing annual maintenance on all department radios. With the work they completed, both HV and LFD dispatch's will be able to identify which radio has had the emergency marker activated.
Police:
This week, the police department responded to 159 calls for service, made 68 traffic contacts, made 4 arrests, responded to 3 traffic accidents and performed 563 community policing activities.
Senior Animal Care Officer Michelle Burke held an adoption fair with the help of our local Petco and found homes for 14 different animals. We also had over $300 in donations given to us to assist with spaying and neutering of the shelter animals.
The Highland Village Animal Shelter received quite a few items as donations from the local Target.
Corporal April Roppolo conducted a station tour for thirty kids from the Highland Village Kids Kamp recently. The kids really loved getting to tour a real jail and asked April where the games and television were. Corporal Roppolo also conducted a drug awareness class for eighteen boy scouts.
STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS
Streets:
The Street Division made sign repairs throughout the city by cleaning graffiti off the faces of the signs and removing advertising signs that were attached to signs.
The Street crews trimmed trees that were hanging over into the street - hitting vehicles and obstructing vision.
PARKS DEPARTMENT
Parks staff has prepared Unity Park for the AAYBA World Series Baseball Tournament beginning this Sunday until July 25th. There will be games taking place in Highland Village, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Missouri, Oklahoma and Colorado this year.
Parks staff met with representatives from the Medical Center of Lewisville to finalize a trail marking plan for our Inland Trail system.
Parks staff met with representatives from BW2 Engineers, Axis Contracting, Inc. and Barrier Free Texas who is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to inspect the Highland Village Sidewalk and Lake Vista Trail project for ADA accessibility, that is in its final stages of completion. After the inspection was complete, two minor items were identified by Barrier Free Texas. One was to trim three trees along the Highland Village Road Sidewalk and the other was to fill in the expansion joints with sealant compound. These issues will be resolved within the next week.
Parks staff appreciates the Utilities staff repairing the lift station electrical panel at Pilot Knoll Park this week.
All crews are involved in normal park maintenance schedules and mowing cycles.
The Parks Department received a new Toro Utility Vehicle for the Herbicide/Pesticide Technician this week.
The Parks Board has a crew cleaning out brush and weeds at the Marauder Park pond easement area near St. James Place.
Tony Palesano has been helping mark water lines and irrigation heads at Brazos Park where the contractor will stage from when installing the new water line.
This is the third week of Kids Kamp at Briarhill Middle School. The field trips this week included Ft. Worth Stockyards Museum, Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History, movie, and Old Town Swimming Pool.
Senior All Stars
The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (20 attendees) and Thursday (25 attendees) for game day.
Nine Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for open game time.
On Wednesday, 7 Highland Village Senior All Stars went to the Dallas Aquarium.
