The City recently received communiqués from the Highland Village Parent Group expressing their concern of the expansion of FM 2499 through Highland Village in regards to the findings of the recent publication of the Lancet Study. The Highland Village Parent Group requested the City Council seek an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) to determine the impact the road expansion may have based on the findings of the Lancet Study.
While the city fully supports the expansion of FM 2499, we also continue our concern about any potential negative impact on Highland Village. The council continues involvement with TxDOT and Denton County – from review of the 30% construction plans in 2001, the review of the Environmental Analysis Finding of No Significant Impact in 2005 and the review and approval of the final construction plans this year – to address any negative impacts to the residents of Highland Village. The City Council’s first consideration then and now remains to the citizens who are adjacent to this project.
Mayor Dianne Costa and Councilman Austin Adams met with Senator Chris Harris on August 14, 2007 to discuss the request presented by the Highland Village Parent Group in regards to the findings of the Lancet Study. Senator Chris Harris issues the attached letter, which is Senator Harris’ recommendation to move forward with the FM 2499 expansion through Highland Village.
