Scott Kriston reports that the TXDOT FM 2499 section 4 project contractor painted the road striping on the south bound lanes and is in the process of barricade removal at the FM 2499 connection at FM 407. TXDOT anticipates opening one north bound lane and one southbound lane of FM 2499 from Highland Shores to FM 407 to local traffic by the end of March, weather permitting. They will then finish demolishing & pouring the concrete the coping walls, cut outs, sidewalks and driveway connections on the north bound outside lane.
Scott Kriston reports that the Highland Shores Paving project contractor is cleaning up the site. A final walk through was performed. Contractor is finishing up the punch list items.
Billy Spencer reports that the homeowner of the property involved in a house fire on Highland Village Road is in contact with their insurance company and they are negotiating a settlement. Once that is achieved, the contractor will begin work on the home.
PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)
Fire:
On Wednesday, Chief Tatum attended the initial Fire-Life Safety Committee meeting for the DCTA (Denton County Transportation Authority). The FLSC reviews standards and safety-related designs and tests to verify fire life safety code and regulatory compliance. In addition, the FLSC addresses preparedness issues and reviews variances. The FLSC will be conducting monthly meetings with area Emergency Services Personnel to schedule drills and other activities as may be required. With the A-Train start-up (Trinity Mills to Highland Village/Lewisville Lake) station is scheduled for the end of 2010, with the remainder of the line to be open by mid-2011.
Fire Personnel received EMS training for traumatic spinal immobilization and the use of a new system to strap a patient to the back board called the " Spider Strap" which we will soon be in place on the ambulances
Highland Village firefighters responded to a structure fire on Russell Street and were provided vital mutual aid from Lewisville Fire Department. The fire was caused by a plumbers torch, the residents suffered minimal damage to the structure.
Fire Department personnel responded to 23 calls for service the week of March 12 -18.
Police:
ACO Michelle Burke hosted an adoption fair and was able to find homes for seven out of eleven dogs. We were also able to collect over $60 in donations and had Denton Humane Society stop by and donate a lot of dog and cat food with more to come later. Thanks to everyone that came and helped!
Senior Animal Care Officer Michelle Burke found a new family for another one of our shelter residents.
Captain Mark Stewart interviewed two applicants for police officer and scheduled one applicant for an oral board to be held next week.
This week, the police department responded to 149 calls for service, made 135 traffic contacts, made 3 arrests, responded to 1 traffic accident and performed 525 community policing activities.
STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS
Streets:
The Street Division made asphalt street repairs on Duvall Boulevard at Big Elm Street this completed the repairs to the flume on Duvall Boulevard.
The Street Division completed the concrete sidewalk repairs located at 2170 Strathmore Drive by removing the forms and backfilling with soil.
The Street Division, in preparation for a concrete street repair on Canterbury Drive, saw-cut the area, removed the concrete. put rebar in the area and formed to be poured next week.
The Street crew installed new upgrade street signs on Doubletree Boulevard from Sellmeyer Lane to Highland Village Road to comply with Federal Highway Administration mandate.
Utilities:
Scott Kriston reports that the MSC project contractor poured concrete paving for the south side parking lot & demolished phase 3 paving along the north side of the lot. The motor pool & fuel pumps will be closed for 4 weeks while this part of the project is completed. The framing and dry wall contractors continue to work inside the Parks & Rec building. The framing contractor is installing the wood & steel framing to the slab for the Public Works building. The electrical rough started on the PWB. The equipment building slab was poured and the storage building foundation steel is currently being laid out for a concrete pour as weather permits.
Scott Kriston met with BW2 Engineering , Inc. & discussed the status of all open Public Works projects.
Scott Kriston and David Clark met with a representative from Cornerstone safety to discuss setting up a competent person training for the Utilities & Drainage Divisions.
Scott Kriston & Tim Bruedigam met with the design engineer from BW2 onsite of the Highland Village Road sidewalk to discuss utility conflicts with the installation of the new sidewalk. Possible resolutions are being looked at.

PARKS DEPARTMENT
Crews at Unity Park are involved in prepping baseball fields for the opening of the Spring season next week.
Axis Contracting started construction this week on the Highland Village Road Trail project.
All crews are involved in mowing and turf maintenance in parks and municipal grounds areas.
Pilot Knoll Park overnight camping area, with spring approaching, has been near full capacity on weekends.
Tommy White has been in contact with a local retired resident and a local Boy Scout troop concerning the scouts doing a merit project involving constructing and installing new trail markers in Wichita Forest.
Fince Espinoza, Sue Thompson, Sandy McCoy, Laurie Mullens, Cheryl Dudich, Karen Bradley, Lori Wright, Heather Miller, Terry Golden, and Andra Boxberger attended a Red, White and Blue planning meeting.
Senior All Stars
The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (17 attendees) and Thursday (35 attendees) for game day.
Fourteen Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for open game time.
On Wednesday, 51 Highland Village Senior All Stars went on the Choctaw Casino trip.
