City to Cancel May 8, 2010 General Election

The General Election scheduled for May 08, 2010 is uncontested and the election will be cancelled in accordance with the Texas Election Code.  The Council, on February 23, 2010, ordered an election to be held on May 08, 2010 for the purpose of electing Council members to Place 1 (Mayor), 2, 4 and 6.  The filing deadlines for placement on the ballot and declaration of write-in candidacy have passed and the city secretary received one application for each place.  Pursuant to Chapter 2 of the Texas Election Code, the city secretary shall prepare written notification that each candidate is unopposed for the election. Upon receipt of notification, the Council is authorized to declare each unopposed candidate elected to office and cancel the General Election.  The following candidates are unopposed, and upon approval of resolution to cancel the election, will be declared elected to specified offices.  The candidates will begin their official duties on May 11, 2010.
