At the February 23 meeting, Council held a planning session to review the current budget and receive a presentation on the five-year forecast. The year-end actual FY 2009 fund balance exceeded projections by nearly $250,000, which provides flexibility for Council to consider a few one time expenditures. These include the addition of one position to the Drainage Utility which is funded through the Drainage Utility Fund and the purchase of an automated gate system for Copperas Branch Park. Council approved a budget amendment addressing these and other expenditures. The five-year forecast continues on a positive trend, with a conservative and fiscally responsible approach to future projects and expenditures.
Also at this meeting Council approved site plan amendments to convert the existing Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant to a Whataburger. The restaurant is located at 2710 FM 407. There will be no modifications made to the existing facility except to add the Whataburger trademark orange and white strip awning and signage.
During the Mayor and Council Presentations, Verizon presented a check to the Police Department in the amount of $2500.00 to use toward the purchase of an electronic messaging trailer. The Highland Village Women’s Club also presented a check to the Police Department in the amount of $849.96 for computer monitors in the Patrol Report Writing Room.
