At the November 10 meeting, Council approved the first read of amendments to the sign ordinance allowing businesses to display a temporary banner sign up to three times a year and for 60 days during the months of November and December.
During the Mayor’s Comments, Mayor Dianne Costa recognized LA Fitness employee Shaun McEvoy. While working Mr. McEvoy was called to the aid of a fellow employee who had a heart attack. McEvoy used the AED housed at LA Fitness and was able to revive his fellow employee. The Highland Village paramedics and the surgeon at Denton Regional Medical Center confirmed McEvoy saved this man’s life by his use of the AED.
During the City Manager report, Michael Leavitt informed residents of the 2009 Holiday Pass Program. The program encourages residents to shop Highland Village for their holiday gifts and gatherings and receive a special gift at participating stores.
Mr. Leavitt also invited residents to attend the Our Village Glows tree lighting ceremony on December 1 at the Shops at Highland Village. The event will include musical performances by local school choirs, face painting, cookie decorating, holiday beverages and a visit from Santa. On Saturday, December 12 the Fire Department will have the first ever Santa Parade and Santa Day at the Fire Station. Details are available on the city web site.
