The TXDOT FM 2499 project status is as follows:  The contractor is addressing drainage issues that have surfaced from the final grade of the new road.  The contractor continues to build the pedestrian tunnel.  The contractor is final dressing the southern end of the project.

PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)

Fire:

Training/Meetings:

  • Fire Personnel attended continuing education fire classes provided by Tarrant County College
  • On Wednesday, Chief Tatum and Chief Collier attended the Safety Train ride from Denton to Ft. Worth. The purpose of this event was to educate Public Officials, including Fire and Police personnel about the Operation Lifesaver program offered by Union Pacific Railroad. Topics included the Crossing Accident Reduction Enforcement (CARE) program, quiet zones, and camera crossing enforcement, haz-mat incidents, and general railroad operations.
  • Fire and Police Officials, Chief Ed O'Bara, Chief Lonnie Tatum and Captain Mark Stewart attended the Executive Level Course for effectively managing motor vehicle accidents in relation to the safety of responders and accident victims. The course, provided by the North Central Texas Council of Governments provided valuable information to local officials on proper procedures regarding the timely clearing of the roadway, towing damaged vehicles and contacting outside agencies for assistance

Fire Calls for Service

  • Total Fire & EMS Calls for October: 40 Fire Calls, 81 EMS Calls
  • Sirens were tested throughout the City; this test is done on a monthly basis
  • 3 commercial fire alarm calls
  • 9 medical emergencies
  • 1 carbon monoxide call
  • 1 public service
  • 1 motor vehicle accident
  • 2 structure fires
  • 1 odor investigation
  • 1 gas leak

Police:

  • This week, the police department responded to 138 calls for service, made 104 traffic contacts, made 3 arrests, responded to 3 traffic accidents and performed 530 community policing activities.

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

Drainage crews:

  • Excavated and repaired storm drain pipe in the 3000 block of Creek Haven.
  • Excavated, formed and poured concrete curb and gutter in the 3000 block of Creek Haven.
  • Are grading and forming for concrete slab for the material bins at Southwood well lot.
  • Backfilled a sink hole and re-graded the area to flow by the existing concrete flume in the 700 block of Live Oak.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

Last Saturday's Fall Festival at Unity Park was a great success with the Parks staff serving hot dogs and drinks.

Park staff at Pilot Knoll Park reopened the boat ramp that was closed temporarily due to high water in the park. Staff there has been busy mulching leaves and cleaning debris from the high water areas.

All crews are planting fall colors in the beds at City Hall and various medians and park locations.

The weather has finally been dry enough for league games to resume on baseball and soccer fields at Unity Park after extra field preparations by the crew.

Wes Neinhuser has been making post emergent weed control applications to several parks and medians.

The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (25 attendees) and Thursday (35 attendees) for game day. Thursday was also Meals on Wheels.

Six Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for open game time.

On Wednesday, 11 Highland Village Senior All Stars met at Barnes and Noble for Book Club.

 Twenty Five Highland Village Senior All Stars took a trip on Wednesday to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium for a tour.

 

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

Human Resources:

  • Martha Butz and Vanesa Childers attended the Board of Ethics meeting on Wednesday evening. Angela Kreig was elected Chair and John Mc Gee Vice Chair
  • Martha Butz, Vanesa Childers and Jane Ponder held orientation for Jennifer Telshaw, Communications Officer, and Stan Halfmann, Firefighter/Paramedic. We are glad they have joined our City team!

Fire:

  • Conducted tour for local Boy Scout Troop 1163
  • Attended Fall Festival and passed out flyers for the upcoming Santa Day/Parade Dec 12.

CITY MANAGER / CITY COUNCIL

Councilmembers Davis, Meek and Wilcox attended the Annual Community Showcase and Taste of Lewisville at Lewisville High School on Saturday.

Councilmember Wilcox attended the Annual Park's Department Fall Festival at Unity Park on Halloween.

Mayor Pro Tem Don Combs served as Honorary Judge for the Annual MDA Lock-Up Fundraiser held at The Grotto on Thursday.

Councilmembers Davis, Meek and Wilcox attended the Cross Timbers Artist Guild Opening Reception and Art Preview at The Shops of Highland Village on Friday.
