The TXDOT FM 2499 project status is as follows:  The contractor is addressing drainage issues that have surfaced from the final grade of the new road.  The contractor continues to build the pedestrian tunnel.  The contractor is final dressing the southern end of the project.

Laurie Mullens and I participated in the Communication Audit of the LISD communication efforts. The LISD Board authorized a Public Relations firm to conduct the audit to determine how to best use the District's communication tools. Our session focused mainly on communication with the District and the City.

 

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Dottie Palumbo attended the Frisco (BNSF) Corridor Strategy meeting to discuss the planned north-south corridor that extends from Irving to Frisco. The discussion focused on the planning and technical details of the Conceptual Engineering and Funding Study: ridership estimates, alignment alternatives, vehicle technology, station location criteria and efforts to collect data about existing transportation and environmental condition in the planned rail corridor.

PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)

Fire:

  • Chief Tatum, Asst. Chief Collier held the monthly officer's meeting with Chip Willis, Vince Jones and Travis Nokes in attendance.
  • Asst. Chief Collier attended the Verizon - Direct Connect meeting this week.
  • Asst. Chief Collier met with Emergency Management Coordinator Jody Gonzalez on Thursday.

  • Chief Tatum, Asst. Chief Collier, Chip Willis and Nancy Sharp met with Mayor Costa regarding the upcoming Santa Day Parade

Police:

  • This week, the police department responded to 163 calls for service, made 82 traffic contacts, made 13 arrests, responded to 3 traffic accidents and performed 396 community policing activities.
  • Police Auxiliary Nada Serrie and Corporal April Roppolo worked a special Halloween event at Kroger's.
  • Senior Animal Care Officer Michelle Burke represented Highland Village at the Fido Fest in Flower Mound. We adopted out one of our dogs had a good turnout at our table.
  • Officer Tim Henderson assisted with Rambling Oaks in celebrating Halloween on October 28th at 5pm during the residents dinner.

 

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

The Street Division made asphalt street repairs on Singletree Street due to base failures. They will continue to make repairs on Singletree through next week.

The Street Division saw cut the sidewalk at 2610 Braemar Lane to repair a tripping hazard. The crew will make repairs on the sidewalk at 2610 Braemar Lane next week.

Edgewater Street was closed due to high water. The Street Division will continue to monitor the situation.

Scott Kriston, David Clark, Justin Praesel & Tom Rollins met with Redmoon to discuss relocating the MSC's network connectivity to the Double Tree Ranch site for the interim while the new MSC is constructed.

Scott Kriston met with Layne Texas, LLC to discuss semi-annual well pump & motor testing.

Matthew Kite, P.E. & Scott Kriston met with BW2 Engineer's, Mike & Jeff, to discuss the Highland Shores Paving project.

Utility Crews:

  • Responded to eight after hour call outs and four resident concerns.
  • Raised one sanitary manhole to grade.
  • Located four areas of utility infrastructure for proposed franchise utility work.
  • Flushed 7,000 feet of sewer lines as part of the sewer line maintenance program.
  • TV inspected 3 sewer lines to locate buried infrastructure and areas in need of repair.
  • Rebuilt all TCEQ test sample spigots at all the well lots to insure quality water samples are taken.
  • Started moving out of the 948 MSC to make way for construction of the new 948 MSC. Employees were moving boxes to Idlewild and Unity storage sites.
  • Pulled a submersible grinder pump at a Pilot Knoll Park lift station for the Parks Dept.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and leak checks.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Drainage crews:

  • Cleaned debris collected at creek crossings caused from the recent rain events.
  • Repaired a drainage pipe and grated inlet in the 400 block of Moran.
  • Hauled materials to 5001 Village Parkway materials storage site.
  • Cleaned and performed maintenance on equipment.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

Fall Festival is this Saturday at Unity starting at 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Parks Staff helped out with the Hogwarts Festival last Saturday.

The north crew did repairs to fencing at Victoria Park.

The south crew prepared baseball fields at Unity Park for league play.

Pilot Knoll Crew closed the boat ramp access due to high water in the Park.

All crews are prepping flower beds for fall planting.

Tony Palesano replaced irrigation control panels at Victoria Park.

Wes Neinhuser did carpentry work on a project at Doubletree.

The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (19 attendees) and Thursday (31 attendees) for game day.

Seven Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for open game time.

On Friday, 26 Highland Village Senior All Stars took a trip to the Canton Flea Market

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

Employees from the Streets, Maintenance and Utilities departments attended safety training in Corinth hosted by the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool. Topics discussed were basic to advanced driving, equipment operational issues and practical methods to reduce or minimize losses while performing their jobs, including following established policies and procedures.

CITY MANAGER / CITY COUNCIL

Mayor Costa attended the Highland Village Rotary Club 1st Annual "Formal But Tacky Ball" on Friday evening, October 23rd.  Proceeds from the event held at the Royal Affairs Ballroom in Lewisville benefited local Breast Cancer Awareness charities "Cleaning for a Reason" and "Bridge Breast Network".

Members of Council attended the Highland Village Parks Foundation "Hogwarts Festival" at Unity Park on Saturday.

Mayor Pro Tem Combs and Councilmember Meek attended the Precinct 3 Meeting in Flower Mound on Monday.

Mayor Pro Tem Combs and Councilmember Meek attended the Lewisville Area Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday.

Mayor Pro Tem Combs, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem McDearmont and Councilmembers Meek and Wilcox attended the Waste Management Open House to Celebrate the Dedication of the Connection of Railroad Street and Hebron Parkway and the Grand Opening of the New DFW Landfill Gas to Energy Facility on Wednesday morning.
