COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Sue Thompson reports that our Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell was given a tour of FM 2499 from FM 407 north to the construction area of the bridge over Poindexter Creek off the FM 2181 in Corinth this week. Ms. Mitchell was very impressed with the progress of the construction and work of the contractor. She also received information about future landscaping and retaining walls to be done along the route as well.
PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)
Police:
- This week the Police Department responded to 141 calls for service, made 159 traffic contacts, made 5 arrests, responded to 0 traffic accidents and performed 475 community policing activities.
- This week Corporal April Roppolo and members of the Highland Village Rotary went to HVE, CME and Heritage. They passed out Dictionaries to all third grade students.
- Sergeant Sheri Morrison and Officer Alicia Bautista were named in a recent piece of case law (Dornbusch v State) for their work on a DWI arrest and subsequent testimony."Dornbusch v State : 2nd COA - For the purposes of DWI, the defendant was legally and factually operating his car if he was passed out behind the wheel with the engine running, headlights on, radio playing loudly, and the car in gear while it was parked in a restaurant's lot. Under the totality of the circumstances, the defendant took action to affect the functioning of his vehicle that would enable the vehicle's use. In addition, a parking lot at a public place is not legally different from a roadway for purposes of a DWI arrest or conviction. Dornbusch v. State, 02-07-297-CR."
Fire:
- Highland Village Fire Department responded to 17 calls for service the week of Aug 28- Sept 3. Included are: 11 medical emergencies, 1 motor vehicle accidents, 2 odor investigations, 1 hazmat call, and 2 structure fire calls. Fire personnel conducted 1 plan review for a new business application this week.
STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS
Street Division:
- The Street Division made some asphalt street failure repairs on Willow Creek Estates due to a water leak and finished the repairs at 317 Greensprings Drive.
- The Street Division has started the cracksealing program by cracksealing in the Village Estates III subdivision.
PARKS DEPARTMENT
Staff is involved in general mowing maintenance.
Tony Palesano completed repair work to irrigation leaks on the Briarhill median last week.
Staff is in the process of making repairs to damage at Kid's Kastle.
Staff at Pilot Knoll Park is repainting parking lot lines and sign post where needed.
Wes Neinhuser applied fire ant bait to several parks in the City.
Several staff members are scheduled to work this weekend at Copperas Park in anticipation of large crowds for the Labor Day Holiday.
The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (23 attendees) and Thursday (43 attendees) for game day.
Four Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for open game time.
On Wednesday, 13 Highland Village Senior All Stars met at Barnes & Noble for Book Club.
HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING
Human Resources:
- Martha Butz attended the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association board meeting and conference on Employment Law in Galveston this week.
Fire:
- Assistant Jason Collier attended the monthly Fire Investigators Association North TX (FIANT) meeting this week in Frisco.
CITY MANAGER / CITY COUNCIL
On Tuesday, Councilmember Wilcox attended Leadership Orientation.
On Wednesday, Councilmember Meek attended the Leadership Lewisville Opening Reception.
On Thursday, Councilmember Meek, and his wife, attended the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Northwest Cities Reception.
