Scott Kriston attended the TXDOT FM 2499 project meeting this week. The project status is as follows: The contractor is working on the bridges. The contractor is working on the intersections and will continue to form and pour concrete cut outs, intersections and entrances. The cut outs and intersections are anticipated to be completed over the next few weeks.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Sue Thompson reports that Highland Village was the host city for the monthly Precinct 3 Task Force meeting this week. Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell was out-of-town, so John Polster, ITS, chaired the meeting. The purpose of the monthly meeting is to receive updates on roadway projects in Precinct 3 of Denton County. The current let date for FM 407 improvements from west of Briarhill Boulevard to west of Chinn Chapel Road is November 2009. On FM 2499, construction continues on the pedestrian tunnel, concrete paving completed on southbound FM 2499 at railroad, bridge construction continues on both the Hickory Creek and Poindexter Creek bridges. Next month's Precinct 3 meeting will be held in Lewisville.
Sue Thompson met with a staff member from the City of Corinth to discuss various development issues, fees and processes. Sue provided insight as to how Highland Village achieved the cohesive type of development the City Council, staff and citizens wanted to see along our commercial corridor, and most especially at FM 407 and FM 2499.
PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)
Highland Village Fire Department responded to 16 calls for service the week of Aug 21-28. Included are: 9 medical emergencies, 1 motor vehicle accidents, 3 residential fire alarms, 2 public service calls, and 1 carbon monoxide investigation. Fire personnel conducted 2 business inspections this week.
This week the Police Department responded to 158 calls for service, made 125 traffic contacts, made 4 arrests, responded to 1 traffic accident and performed 548 community policing activities.

Corporal Harney worked "Meet the Teacher" night at McAuliffe Elementary School.

PSO Dick Williams worked "Meet the Teacher" night at Heritage Elementary School.
Corporal David Harney conducted a special event "Back to School Expo" at Excite. Corporal Jered Cameron, Corporal April Roppolo, Auxiliary Miller (who played McGruff), and Two Auxiliary Bike officers, Myers and McClean also assisted with the event. Bike inspections, bike helmets, a bike rodeo, and car seat inspections were all conducted.
STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS
The Street Division started making some concrete street repairs on at Greensprings St. @ Village Tree Drive. The repairs are consisted of repairing the concrete gutter and the repairs will be completed by next week.
The Street Division had replaced the new "No Cell Phone" signs. These signs are required by state law starting September 1st in all the school zones that adopted the "No Cell Phone" usage in a school zone.
Scott Kriston & David Clark met with BW2 Engineers to discuss the AC water line replacement project and the 24" & 27" manhole rehabilitation project currently under design.

PARKS DEPARTMENT
Parks Department's crew replaced the Highland Village Balloon Festival pole banners with the Veteran's Day banners at the municipal complex and down Brazos Boulevard.
Beginning next Monday, Parks Department's Inland Trail crew will maintain Village Trail, Market Trail, Victoria Trail and the Gayle Lane pond.
The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (26 attendees) and Thursday (30 attendees) for game day.
Five Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for Bridge and Domino games.
On Friday, 16 Highland Village Senior All Stars attended The North Texas Expo on Aging at Lone Star Park.
Highland Village Area Baseball Softball Association's games begin at Unity Park Friday night.
Brazos Boulevard Landscaping is approximately 95% complete, additional work will be complete in the next couple of weeks.

On Monday, Mayor Pro Tem Combs, Councilmembers Meek and Wilcox attended the Precinct 3 Meeting.
On Tuesday, Mayor Costa, Mayor Pro Tem Combs, Councilmembers Meek, Wilcox and City Secretary Richardson attended the Lewisville Chamber Luncheon with Keynote Speaker Michael Burgess.
On Thursday, Councilmember Meek attended "Meet the Artist" reception for a new business "Cross Timbers Artist Guild" in the Shops of Highland Village.
On Friday, Councilmember Meek, Wilcox and Davis will attend the DKH "Thank-You" reception.
