City Manager to Begin the Process of Creating a Transportation Oriented Overlay District

Back To News

At the November 27 meeting, Council approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager to begin the process of creating a Transportation Oriented Overlay District for the northeast section of Highland Village along I-35E and Highland Village Road. “Transportation is a country-wide issue and no single group can solve these issues,” stated Mayor Dianne Costa. “We are planning for the future and not simply focusing on the present.” The City Manager will begin the process by reviewing current ordinances and overlay districts and schedule a joint session with City Council and Planning & Zoning in late February. “It is our intention to work closely with all involved stakeholders, particularly our residents, landowners and our neighboring city of Lewisville,” stated City Manager Michael Leavitt, “to develop guidelines that are beneficial to the transportation coming to the area and protect the adjacent residential areas.”

Also at this meeting Council approved the preliminary plat for the District of Highland Village. The District will be located at the northwest corner of FM 407 and Briarhill Boulevard and will includes upscale town homes, retail, and restaurants.

During the Mayor’s announcements, Mayor Costa invited residents to upcoming holiday events:

·         Our Village Glows Tree Lighting Ceremony at Unity Park on Tuesday, December 4 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Activities include performances by local choirs, holiday beverages, face painting and cookie decorating, plus Santa.

·         Santa at the Fire Station on Saturday, December 8 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. for pictures with Santa, drinks, cookies and door prizes.

·         Highland Village Fire Department Toy Drive running through December 8. Drop off a new, unwrapped toy at several locations including the Fire Station and City Hall.
