“The swine flu is a ‘new disease.’ As health care professionals, we are still learning about the spread and prevention of swine flu. This virus normally infects pigs but has changed itself to infect humans. The potential for rapid spread and complications make this a pressing public health concern,” stated
Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Scott McDearmont. The Denton County Health Authority through the Denton County Health Department (DCHD) has recommended that residents avoid large or group gatherings, when possible. If residents do attend group gatherings, ensure that proper precautions are followed, including thorough and frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizer. It is also strongly recommended that anyone who feels ill stay at home and avoid going to work, school, or group gatherings.
DCHD makes the following recommendations to reduce the spread of infections, such as swine flu:
Symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and could include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have also reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. If a resident is concerned about symptoms they are experiencing, the regular health care provider should be contacted.
