At the February 12 meeting, Council approved the site plan for Phase I of the District of Highland Village. The District, located at the northwest corner of FM 407 and Briarhill Boulevard, will include town homes, retail, office and restaurants when completed. Phase I includes one retail building and three residential town home building. Phase I construction will begin after engineering plans and the final plat are approved by Council.
Also at this meeting, Council approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Thor-Quad, Inc. for the purchase and installation of a lightning detection system for Unity Park. The city, along with the Greater Lewisville Area Soccer Association (GLASA) and the Highland Village Area Baseball/Softball Association (HVABSA), desired a lightning prediction system to increase safety for users of Unity Park. The total cost is $10,800 and the two associations approved $2400 each and the city will pay the remaining $6000.
During early work session Council received a presentation from staff regarding the development of an ordinance prohibiting residency of sex offenders within certain areas of the city. Currently all neighboring cities have an ordinance in place restricting residency of sex offenders within the city. Council directed staff to develop an ordinance to be discussed at a future Council meeting.
