On Thursday Matthew Kite & I met with Bud Bartley on the need to provide an offset cul-de-sac on Springs Oak Drive in the Chapel Springs Addition.  We provided him with a drawing showing the proposed lot layout, which he was receptive to.  Once we have a true lot configuration that will work for a pad site the City will initiate the replatting process to achieve a functional turn around for the development.

Scott Kriston attended the TXDOT FM 2499 phase 4 weekly project meeting.  The TxDOT FM 2499 project status  is as follows:  The contractor is installing the drill shafts for the proposed bridge at Poindexter Branch & Hickory Creek Branch of Lake Lewisville.  Franchise utilities are working on relocating their infrastructure that needs to be relocated inside the TX DOT right of way.  The contractor is installing stormwater pipe along the right of way at various locations.  The contractor is installing retaining walls along the entire project.  Final grade has been cut on the north bound lanes from the KCS railroad south to FM 407.  Asphalt will be placed next week to be followed by concrete within a few weeks.  As of January 12, there are 405 construction workers working on the jobsite.

Rhoda L. Savage, Fince' Espinoza and Tommy White met with representatives from David Baldwin Incorporated to discuss the proposed concept plans for the Brazos Blvd. Landscaping project.  The design will include Texas Smart plants and drip or bubbler type irrigation heads as needed to help establish the plants and maintain them during periods of adverse weather conditions.  A follow up meeting is scheduled in early February with a target for bidding the project March, 2009.  Hopefully, project bidding and execution of the project for construction can be completed in time for a spring planting and construction completion prior to July 2009.

Sue Thompson reports the first HVBA luncheon for 2009 was held this week.  Mayor Dianne Costa welcomed everyone and introduced our speaker, Gary Cogill, film critic for WFAA Channel 8.  We had attendance of approximately 50 people and all of them thoroughly enjoyed listening and laughing with Mr. Cogill.  Staff provided a 2009 HVBA calendar of events for everyone.  It was a great way to begin a new year.

Sue Thompson attended the monthly Lewisville Area Chamber Governmental Affairs meeting.  The group discussed the upcoming Denton County Days to be held in Austin on February 9th and 10th, received updates on DCTA and various other topics and Sue provided an update on Highland Village.

Dottie Palumbo reports Highland Village's sales tax contribution to DCTA for the month of January 2009 is $217,124.00.

The Highland Village Fire Department responded to 23 calls for service the week of Jan 9-15th.  This included 13 medical emergencies, 2 residential fire alarms, 1 commercial fire alarm, 2 odor investigations, 2 public assists, and 3 public services. The Fire Department also conducted two plan reviews and 6 inspections for new businesses.

Drainage crews repaired top of curb inlet in the 100 block of Sleepy Hollow.

Drainage crews completed finishing the dress up of drainage easement in the 3000 block of Lake Creek.

Drainage crews cleaned debris from concrete flume at the at the 100 block of Devron Ct.

Drainage crews retrieved personal items for resident at the 100 block of Edinburgh.

Drainage crews reshaped and set grade for proper flow at the 800 block of Lake Haven. 

Utility crews responded to seven after hour call outs.  Calls included sewer backups, water leaks and a meter box replacement.

Utility crews responded to the concerns of four resident complaints.  Complaints were that the water smelled of chemicals, a sewer odor in the bathroom, water bubbling up out of the ground and water gushing out of the meter box.

Utility crews excavated and repaired one property line sewer cleanout.

Utility crews started annual preventative maintenance of lift stations.  Each lift station pump, motor, and all electrical components are checked and tested for problems.

Utility crews began installation of the new gate access keypad at the FM 407 well lot.

Utility crews performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants and the water distribution and wastewater collection system. 

Utility crews started a project to replace approximately 500 feet of sanitary sewer main on Windy Ct.  The television inspection of the line revealed several broken spots in the main.  The crews installed approximately 250 feet of new main this week and will finish the job next week, weather permitting. 

The Pilot Knoll Crew and Wes Neinhuser began a project this week to replace one third of the picnic table shelter roofs in the Pilot Knoll Park Day use area.

The North Crew has been repairing and replacing dome post at Copperas Park and ordering parts for damaged playground equipment at several neighborhood parks in the City.

The South Crew was involved in building additions and moving fencing at the under-6 baseball field at Unity Park.

On Monday, Parks' staff, Parks Foundation and Lake Cities Cross Country met with the police department to discuss traffic control for the Resolution Run.

On Monday, Parks' staff met with the Senior All Stars Advisory Board to discuss future recreation programs.

On Monday and Thursday the Senior All Stars met for game day, with 21 and 31 in attendance respectively.  On Tuesday they had a discussion on the financial market, with 10 in attendance.

On Tuesday, Fince' Espinoza met with Chief Lonnie Tatum to discuss EMT support for the Resolution Run.

On Wednesday, Fince' Espinoza, Jon Richardson and Tommy White met with members of H.V.A. to discuss the construction modifications of the recently added blastball field.

On Wednesday, Parks' staff met with representatives from Lake Cities Cross Country, Highland Village Parks Foundation, Medical Center of Lewisville and OPUS West to finalize plans for the Resolution Run.

On Thursday, Rhoda Savage and Fince' Espinoza met with representatives from BW2 Engineers, Pipeworks L.L.C. and Groves Electric to discuss the completion of the construction of Village, Market and Victoria Trails.

Parks' South Crew is modifying the blastball field to better accommodate it's participants.

All Parks' personnel are diligently working on different aspects of organizing the first ever Resolution Run that will take place this Saturday on OPUS West property.

Congratulations to Sandy McCoy! Sandy received her Certificate of Graduation for completing the Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program. 

Chief Collier, Vince Jones and Charles Hinkle attended a Medical Control meeting at Lewisville Medical Center on Monday. 

On Tuesday, Chief Collier attended Leadership Lewisville.

Mayor Costa and Flower Mound Mayor Smith participated in a Free Throw Contest during halftime at the Marcus High School Girl's Basketball Game on Friday, January 9th.

Council Members Adams and Combs joined Mayor Costa in attending the first Highland Village Business Association Luncheon of 2009, held on Tuesday, January 13th at Celebrations.
