Senior All Stars met for game days on Monday and Thursday. Tuesday was chair exercise day at the Highland Shores Community Center. Wednesday the Seniors met at Barnes and Noble for their book club meeting.
Parks staff met with representative from OPUS, Highland Village Parks Foundation and the Medical Center of Lewisville to discuss the upcoming City of Highland Village Resolution Run. The Resolution Run will be January 17th and we would like to encourage staff to come out and join in on the fun. Fince' Espinoza and Andra Boxberger also met with the Highland Village Parks Foundation to discuss advertising the Resolution Run to the local businesses.
Firefighter/EMT Mel Harper provided CPR, Healthcare Provider and First Aid training to fourteen (14) residents on Thursday evening. Sergeant Dennis Oliver and Officer Joey Hasten also attended the CPR training.
Tarrant County College provided a three-day training course to the Highland Village firefighters on Techniques of Auto Extrication.
All Parks Crews are involved in various winter projects including replacing and painting damaged picnic shelters and grills, repairing damaged playground equipment, and taking down the Christmas lights.
Parks staff has been spraying for winter weeds and also repairing and adjusting irrigation systems.
Athletic fields are being prepared for spring season and Fince' Espinoza has met with GLASA to discuss renewal of their contract.
Tommy White, Fince' Espinoza and Bill Aycock met with Tony Campagna of Turf Materials to discuss the baseball fields at Copperas Park and Unity Park.
On Friday Tommy White and Fince' Espinoza met with the Utilities staff to discuss the placement of box culverts in Lower Sellmeyer Park.
The Street Division sanded several areas during the inclement weather that came in on Monday. The Street crew had made several temporary pothole repairs due to ice and wet weather that came in this week.
Street Division made repairs to concrete sidewalk located at 860 Silverthorne Trail due to a trip hazard condition.
The Highland Village Fire Department responded to 21 calls for service the week of Jan 1-8. This included 11 medical emergencies, 3 structure fires, 2 motor vehicle accidents, 2 fire alarm calls, 2 odor investigations, and 1 public service call. The Fire Dept. conducted two plan reviews and 3 inspections for new businesses.
This week the Police Department responded to 123 calls for service, made 104 traffic contacts, made 2 arrests, responded to 7 traffic accidents and performed 836 community policing activities.
Vanesa Childers attended the monthly board meeting of the North Texas Municipal Alliance in Southlake.
Jana Onstead met with representatives from Liberty Mutual.
Chief Tatum Asst. Chief Collier and Nancy Sharp met with Michael Leavitt and Sue Thompson regarding the Comprehensive Plan for the Fire Station on Friday afternoon.
Sergeant Paul Kimberlin attended PPCT Instructor training. Sergeant David Pittinger began his month long supervisory training at the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration.
Mayor Costa and City Attorney Dorothy Palumbo attended the 4th Annual Transportation Forum in Austin, TX. This conference was held by the Texas Department of Transportation. Attendees discussed transportation challenges that will be faced in the 81st Texas Legislature. Also discussed was how Congress will shape and mold a new multi-year transportation policy.
