On Thursday I had the opportunity to meet with the Manager of Wal~Mart. He was happy to report that, for the first year of operation of the Highland Village Wal~Mart, they have exceeded their projected sales by 11%.
Sue Thompson reports the Highland Village hosted the monthly Precinct 3 Task Force meeting this week. Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell chaired the meeting along with John Polster, ITS. Updates on area transportation projects were provided including I-35 and a portion of Hwy. 121. In addition, information was provided by Commissioner Mitchell on a new road bond program to be voted on in the November election. The program, named TRIP '08, will include two bond programs - $310 million in road bonds and $185 million in building bonds.
Sue Thompson and other staff members met with members of the development team for the proposed church, to be located on a 4+ acre tract west of the Highland Oaks development, to address preliminary questions related to site development. This tract will have to be platted and a site plan approved prior to any construction.
Sue Thompson and I met with the agent representing the Barnett family related to the undeveloped tract to discuss a proposed location for an easement or right-of-way through the tract from the District's western property line to Barnett Blvd. to provide the public access required by the City's Thoroughfare Plan. We plan to begin meeting with the available property owners of the tract about acquiring an easement or ROW to provide the much needed public access.
Sue Thompson met with Regency Centers and their sign contractor to discuss a request for replacing existing directory signs within the development with new directory signage to better promote the merchants within the Shops. This request does require an amendment to the Shops signage criteria and public hearings at both P&Z and Council to be held in October.
On Monday, the Senior All-Stars met at Highland Shores Community Center for game day and snack. (9 Residents and 14 Non-Residents attended.)
On Wednesday, the Senior All-Stars went on a day trip to the Choctaw Casino. (40 All-Stars attended.)
On Thursday, the Senior All-Stars met at Highland Shores Community Center for game day and snacks. (27 Residents and 6 Non-Residents attended.) Following game day the seniors had a luncheon and guest speaker from Medical Center of Lewisville. (22 All-Stars attended.)
Highland Village hosted an informational meeting for the businesses along FM 407 to discuss the upcoming construction project of the Upper Trinity Regional Water District. The UTRWD is planning on constructing a 60 inch water line from Morris Road to the east boundary of the Marketplace. Representatives from the UTRWD made a brief presentation and answered questions from the business owners in attendance.
Construction of the Veterans Monument is moving right along! The landscaping is nearly complete at the monument site and the contractor is waiting on the stones for the monoliths. The seals for the branches of the service, along with the plaque, have been ordered. Landscaping has also begun on the south side of the municipal complex, enhancing that area.
The Assistant Fire Chief met with Lewisville radio users group to discuss the problems with the current radio systems and possible solutions. This group meets monthly until all issues are resolved.
The Street Division installed the Pre-emption Optic con system for the Fire Department, with assistance of Lewisville Traffic Department.
The 2008 Asphalt Rehabilitation Project began on Sellmeyer Lane this week from Foggy Glenn to Windy Court and will continue to Brazos Boulevard.
The Street Division finished the concrete street repairs on Huddlefield Crest and made concrete street repairs at 2555 Rosedale.
The Parks South crew did regular maintenance.
The Parks Trail Crew did regular maintenance.
Gayle Lane Detention Pond was cleared out and graded to drain correctly.
The Parks South Crew with help from Wes Neinhuser is in the process of sealing the wood at Kids Kastle play ground.
All Parks Crews are involved in general mowing maintenance through out the City.
Over night camping at Pilot knoll Park has been at full capacity for the last few weekends due to the pleasant weather.
The Highland Village Fire Department had 12 calls for service the week of Sept 19-25.
This included: 1 vehicle fire, 1 motor vehicle accident, 6 medical emergencies, 1 gas leak, and 3 public assists. The Fire Department also went on 2 fire prevention inspections and reviewed 1 new fire alarm plan.
Justin Praesel in Utilities and Vince Jones and Tim Moehlman in Fire attended the tenth series of the Supervisory Classes in Keller. The class topic was "Understanding and Managing Generations."
Mayor Costa and Councilmember Combs attended the Precinct 3 meeting hosted by Highland Village on Monday.
