At the January 25 meeting, Council recognized Highland Village’s longest tenured employee, Crisanto Perez. Mr. Perez is scheduled to retire January 31 after nearly 26 years of service with the City. Perez was honored for his positive attitude, willingness to help and excellent customer service to the residents of Highland Village. "Crisanto Perez has been a great asset to the City of Highland Village. His colleagues will miss his great attitude and work ethic. The council wishes him all the best on the occasion of his retirement," stated Mayor Scott McDearmont.
Also at this meeting Council approved the first read of an ordinance relating to donation boxes within the City. The ordinance provides regulations for permitting, location, operation and condition of donation boxes within the City. The final read of the ordinance will be considered at the February 14 Council meeting.

During the City Manager Report, the HVTV News segment informed residents of the upcoming Father/Daughter Dance to be held at Celebrations on Friday, February 10. Tickets are $25 per person for residents and $30 per person for non-residents. Space is limited. Dress Semi-Formal. Registration is available at the Parks Department or online at www.activenet.active.com/hvparks. The segment also informed residents of the installation of the new LightGuard Crosswalk system on the Inland Trail at Highland Village Road and Briarhill Boulevard. The system is designed to alert approaching motorists to the presence of a pedestrian at a street crossing. A number of in-pavement signal lights are placed across a roadway in front of crosswalk lines. The lights are activated by the pedestrian by automatic sensor activation located inside white bollards, before entering the crosswalk. Once activated, the flashing lights are directed towards approaching drivers warning that the crosswalk zone is occupied and that caution should be exercised.  The crosswalk symbol road signs are LED enhanced and will also activate when the lights are activated.
