Council Received a Presentation on the Potential Debt Issuance

Back To News

At the August 14 meeting, Council received a presentation from First Southwest, the City’s financial advisor, on the potential debt issuance for the Service Center and Interim Senior Center to be located at 948 Highland Village Road. First Southwest confirmed the issuance of up to $5 million would not impact the current tax rate. City Council will consider calling an election for the issuance of this debt at the next Council meeting.

In compliance with State Truth in Taxation laws, Council took a record vote to consider a tax rate of $.56963 and set a public hearing on the tax rate and budget for August 28 and September 11, 2007. The proposed 2007-2008 Budget will be available on the City web site on August 24, 2007

Council approved a resolution appointing five citizens and two Council members to the newly created Solid Waste Advisory Committee. The City’s contract with Waste Management expires in July 2008. The Solid Waste Advisory Committee was formed to explore different options for waste collection and recycling for inclusion in the next contract for solid waste service and to develop the principles of a new Solid Waste Services contract. The citizens appointed to the committee are David Kriel, Allison Lassahn, Stephen Schauweker, Lisa Thomas and Cliff Carr. Council members Austin Adams and Jon Calvin will serve as the Council representatives.

Also at this meeting Council received the Third Quarter Report on the City Manager Work Plan. The work plan provides for ongoing accountability from the leadership within each office and department, as each functional area of responsibility is identified. The work plan will continue to be used as a tool for Council and the City Manager to monitor and evaluate the progress of Council objectives and initiatives. The Report is available on the city web site.
