Back To News

At the January 22 meeting, Council approved the final plat and tree mitigation for St. James Place, a single family subdivision located at the intersection of Castlewood Boulevard and FM 2499. The plat included trail easements to connect the city’s Inland Trail system to the east of FM 2499. Council also approved a development agreement for the purchase of park land including the pond in conjunction with the St. James Place development.

Also at this meeting, Council approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Redmoon Broadband for the installation of a wireless digital camera system at Kids Kastle and Unity Park. A large number of people visit Unity Park and Kids Kastle for softball, soccer and outdoor entertainment. The camera system allows remote, real-time surveillance and recording of the park, ball fields and trail system.

During the City Manager report, Michael Leavitt announced the fundraising drive for the City’s Veterans Memorial. The City is sending letters to the members of the Highland Village Business Association requesting financial assistance in the construction of the City’s Veterans Memorial. “We are looking to the business community and our citizens to help with the construction of the memorial,” stated Michael Leavitt. The Memorial is estimated to cost $75,000 and the City has budgeted $10,000. A conceptual rendering of the Memorial is attached.

Mr. Leavitt also notified residents of the Father & Daughter Valentine’s Dance scheduled for Friday, February 8 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Celebrations. Dance includes dinner, a flower, door prizes and a great time for dads and daughters. Tickets are on sale now for residents for $18.00 per person and non-residents for $21.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased in the Parks Department at the Municipal Complex. No phone registration is accepted and no tickets will be sold at the event.
