The Census Bureau has begun its preparation for the 2010 Census count with the opening of an office in Highland Village. The Bureau is working to hire and train employees to ensure a complete and accurate count for the upcoming 2010 Census.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting was held on Thursday, February 5 to celebrate the opening of the Denton area office in Highland Village. Highland Village City Manager Michael Leavitt, speaking at the event said, “The Census count is the time that we assemble our history for each and every community, this is the time that we compare ourselves to our past and this is the time we see how we have matured or even changed as a community.” The Honorable Bobbie Mitchell, Denton County Precinct 3 Commissioner served as emcee of the event. Census data are used for allocating over $300 billion annually in federal funds to communities, and representation in Congress.

“It is important the community members step up and take an active role in this vital count,” says Gabriel Sanchez, Dallas Regional Director. “An accurate count affects almost every decision in your community, from building new schools and hospitals, to improving roads.”

The Census Bureau is hiring. People interested in applying should call the Jobs line, (866) 861-2010, to schedule a basic aptitude employment test in their area. Offices will recruit workers for office support staff, to update address lists, conduct interviews with community residents, and help recruit. Workers will receive competitive pay, have flexible hours, paid training and a chance to work in their own community.
