Back To News

On Wednesday, November 12, Chief Ed O'Bara accepted the 2008 Community Policing Award for populations under 20,000, at the annual International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference held in San Diego, California.  The Highland Village Police Department received the prestigious award for its "Value-Based" Policing Model.

A preliminary judging panel of 27 and a final panel of seven reviewed nearly 100 nominations from the United States and several foreign countries.  Winners are examples of community policing best practices.  Entries demonstrate the meaningful change that can occur when law enforcement officials and their communities are empowered to utilize all available resources for building partnerships, solving problems, and preventing crime.
