Councilmember Adams and I attended the Upper Trinity Regional Water District Board of Directors meeting held on Thursday.  Mr. Adams spoke on an agenda item regarding the Southwest Pipeline, Phase II Sections 2A and 2B.  As a result of the discussion, the Towns of Flower Mound and Double Oak both withdrew their requests to consider removal of funding for the construction of the Southwest Pipeline - Phase LL Sections 2A and 2B from the FY 2009 Capital Budget and move the proposed funding to FY 2012.

Animal Care Officer Michelle Burke and Animal Care Clerk Mary Chandler made some new friends at the recent Highland Shores "Dog Days" event.   

Assistant Chief Collier met an August Industries representative regarding the purchase of a breathing air compressor for the fire station.  Currently, the fire department utilizes either Lewisville or Flower Mound stations for the filling of our air packs.

On Thursday, Fince L. Espinoza, Rhoda Savage and BW2 Engineers completed the first Inland Trail walkthrough.

On Wednesday, the Senior All-Stars enjoyed book club at Barnes and Noble.

On Thursday, the Senior All-Stars enjoyed Game Day at the Highland Shores Community Center.  Meals on Wheels came and played bingo and brought lunch for all the seniors.

HVA & GLASA began games this week at Unity Park.

The Street Division finished exchanging the 65 gallon recycling carts for 35 gallon carts for residents who requested the smaller carts.

The Street crew made asphalt street repairs to the edge of the street located at 202 Stone Canyon Street.

To aid in visibility and clearance for school buses, the Street crew trimmed up trees from a list that was provided by the Lewisville Independent School District.

The Street Division cracksealed cracks that formed on Scenic Drive and Oak Tree Drive.

On Thursday, Fince L. Espinoza and Rhoda Savage, along with representatives from the  Medical Center of Lewisville, Lion's Club and Highland Village Parks Foundation, met for a Hogwarts Fall Festival meeting.

On Thursday, Fince L. Espinoza, Rhoda Savage, Tommy White, Lori Wright, and engineers and contractors met for a Veteran's Monument pre-construction meeting.  The contractor is scheduled to begin construction on Tuesday, September 9, 2008.

The Pilot Knoll Crew, with the help of Wes Neinhuser, remodeled and repaired the day use restroom facility at Pilot Knoll Park.

The Parks North Crew is heavy into mowing maintenance.  They are also replacing tennis nets at various courts.

Tony Palesano is busy with irrigation repair.

The Corps Parks were busy over Labor Day weekend with heavy day use and overnight camping customers.

The Parks South Crew and Inland Trail Crew are catching up on mowing maintenance after last week's unseasonal rain. 

This week, the police department responded to 162 calls for service, made 98 traffic contacts, made 8 arrests, responded to 7 traffic accidents and performed 480 community policing activities.

The Highland Village Fire Department had 16 calls for service the week of Aug 29-Sept 4.  This included: 12 medical emergencies, 2 public assists, 1 mutual aid structure fire, and 1 possible arson.  HVFD performed one new business inspection and finalized two plan reviews.

Jana Onstead attended the annual TMRS Training Seminar in Corpus Christi this week.  Training regarding plan provisions, how to administer it for employees, what city options are, and changes TMRS is undergoing to keep the retirement system strong were topics covered.

Applicant Greg Arrington has accepted a position as a police officer with our department.  He is scheduled to begin on October 6, 2008.  Gregg has 20 years law enforcement experience, and is retiring from Azle PD.  He has previous experience with Crowley PD and Tarrant County Sheriff's Department.  He will be assigned Badge #521.  We welcome him to our team and look forward to working with him.

Lieutenant Karl Schlichter attended an Advanced Supervision Course in Oklahoma.

Officer Jose Diaz attended an Arrest, Search and Seizure training course.

The Police Department, assisted by the Police Auxiliary, deployed at Copperas Branch Park for Labor Day weekend.

Corporal Detective Doug Bell and Detective Andrea King completed a training course in Tracing IP Addresses.

Former Highland Village Volunteer Rodney Jones and his one year old daughter Gretchen stopped by for a visit.  Gretchen was so excited to see the fire truck and visit with the firefighters.

Terry Golden completed her second week in the Parks Department and has already been a big help.  We're glad to have you Terry!

On Tuesday Mayor Costa was interviewed for the upcoming The Shops at Highland Village Holiday Magazine.
