Sue Thompson reports that on Wednesday, May 7th, the HVBA, staff and City Council members were joined by members of the Lewisville Area and Flower Mound Chambers of Commerce in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the HV Central Fire Station.  Mayor Costa and the "Mayor for the day", a 3rd grader from McAuliffe Elementary, were accompanied by a host of others who helped officially cut the HVBA, Lewisville and Flower Mound Chamber ribbons to celebrate the opening of the new fire facility.  Chief Lonnie Tatum was presented with a US flag, which flew over the nation's Capitol, by Congressman Michael Burgess' office. I provided a brief history of the property and recognized Mrs. Dorothy Rembert for her family's part in working with the City to acquire the land.  On the trail, I explained the dedication plaque to Mrs. Rembert and her daughter in recognition of the Rembert family for the portion of the City's inland trail to be named "Rembert Trail". 

Citizens of Highland Village got out during early voting to cast their ballot for the May 10, 2008 Municipal Election.  Denton County records indicate we had 800 citizens who took advantage of the early voting period.

On Monday, the Senior All-Stars met at the Highland Shores Community Center for snacks and game day.  (16 Residents and 9 Nonresidents attended.) 

On Thursday, the Senior All-Stars met at City Hall in the police training room for snacks and game day.  (16 Residents and 3 Nonresidents attended.)  

On Thursday, eight Senior All-Stars met at El Chico for their monthly lunch together.  

On Friday, Cheryl Dudich printed the senior newsletters to mail. 

The North Crew mowed and prepared the new Fire Station for the grand opening on May 1, 2008. 

Parks staff installed the new monument stone at the new fire Station for the grand opening. 

Thanks to the all the park crew for helping with the Fire Station opening and trail sign marker.

Wes Neinhuser has been busy with weed control in all parks and has been aerating turf areas in parks and municipal areas in the city.  

The South Crew top dressed and aerated baseball fields at Unity Park.

Pilot Knoll Crew was busy with general mowing maintenance.

Tony Palesano has been repairing water leaks and drinking fountains in various parks. 

All crews are involved in regular mowing cycles.

On Thursday, The Inland Trail contractor poured concrete on another section between Shady Meadow and Saddlebrook.

The Police Department was contacted by a representative from Haltom City Police Department.  Their representative wanted to discuss with Captain Stewart our "No Hat, No Hoods, No Sunglasses" program in which all of our banks are currently participating.

Chief O'Bara, Captain Stewart, and Lt. Schlichter met with a representative from Choice Enterprises concerning the installation of an ATM at City Hall. 

This week, the police department responded to 172 calls for service, made 79 traffic contacts, made 12 arrests, responded to 4 traffic accidents and performed 595 community policing activities.

Corporal David Pittinger and Corporal Steve Rodriguez attended Child Safety Seat training. 

Chief O'Bara met with Dan Leal of the Denton County Children's Advocacy Center.

The fourth session, Conflict Management, of the Customer Service Series was held on Thursday in Corinth.  Sandy McCoy, Karen Bradley, Shelly Clark, Lori Wright and Vanesa Childers attended.  

Martha Butz met with two representatives from the City of Corinth on Thursday to discuss the processes Highland Village used regarding the recruitment and hiring for the position of Police Chief and Fire Chief. 

On Monday a drawing was held for employees who entered for a chance to win donated Ranger tickets.  Rudy Lopez, Billy Spencer, Bobby Salmon, Cris Perez and Gabe Doria were the lucky winners.  

On Tuesday, Heather Castillo and Fince Espinoza attended the last class for Leadership Lewisville.  Sunday will be Heather and Fince’s Leadership Lewisville class project.  They will hold a Mother's Day brunch benefiting Pedi Place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lewisville.

Mayor Costa attended the Greater Lewisville Cares 3rd Annual Celebration of Service and Awards Picnic on Sunday, May 4th.  This event is held annually to recognize volunteers and their outstanding achievements in honor of National Volunteer Week.

On Tuesday, members of Council joined Mayor Costa and Staff at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the New Central Fire Station.  This event was hosted by the Highland Village Business Association and area Chambers of Commerce.

Mayor Costa and members of Council attended the Flower Mound Chamber After 5 Open House at United Community Bank on Thursday evening.
