The front entry doors to the Municipal Complex are now handicap accessible!  A big thank you to Charles Ciampi for getting this done.

On Thursday we were invited to be a featured speaker at the 2012 Allegiance Title Economic Update. Approximately 90 local real estate agents attended the update.  There were four presentations - marketing yourself on Facebook, City of Lewisville ED efforts, the developers that are currently doing the Lakeside Developer in Flower Mound and myself on the current status of the City of Highland Village.

TXDOT FM 407 project consists of constructing 1.164 miles of 4 lane divided concrete roadway from Briarhill Blvd. to Chinn Chapel Rd.  You should expect traffic delays along the entire length of the construction zone for the duration of the project.  The temporary traffic signal at Market Place Blvd. is operating.  The contractor has halted the installation of the drainage pipe due to an Atmos Energy buried pipeline conflict.

     COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

On Tuesday Laurie Mullens, Lori Wright, council members Pat Davis, Bill Meek and John McGee attended the Flower Mound Chamber monthly luncheon. Eddie Gossage of Texas Motor Speedway was the guest speaker.

Laurie Mullens attended the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs meeting on Thursday. The committee discussed upcoming topics and speakers. Also the Chamber Board has asked the committee to develop a sub-committee to create a candidates school to help educate people on how to run for elected office.

On Friday Laurie Mullens attended the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting.

Laurie Mullens and Lori Wright visited several new Highland Village businesses on behalf of the HVBA. The new businesses include Clothes Mentor, Vivid Dance Studio, Health Source Chiropractic and Addison June.

Highland Village Firefighters provided a tour and CPR/1st aid overview for a local Webelos Cub Scout pack this week as part of the Scouts merit badge requirements.

This week, Highland Village Firefighters continued with Wildland Training held at Flower Mound Central Station.

Highland Village Firefighters participated in the monthly medical continuing education training held at the Fire Station this week.

Police:

This week, the police department responded to 109 calls for service, made 54 traffic contacts, made 6 arrests, responded to 2 traffic accidents and performed 52 community policing activities.

Detective Chris Carver attended Detective & New Criminal Investigator Training in Brownsville.

Sgt. Paul Kimberlin attended PPCT Recert at COG.

Ofc Jason Lafortune and Ofc J. McCally attended Intermediate Child Abuse Training at CCLEA.

Cpl David Harney attended training at Denton CO SO for Alheizmers/Autism.

Sgt David Pittinger attended Officer Survival Aggressive Dogs.

Two animals were adopted this week - Ozzy and Optimus.

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

The AMI water meter project consists of installing a radio read water meter on all connections located inside the City.  Staff accepted the 90-day pilot phase and has released the rest of the City AMI deployment as of Nov. 28th.  Meter routes #1 - 6 (approx. 2500 meters) are installed and are currently online with the Mosiac system.  Routes #7 & 9 are currently being installed.  Anticipated completion is March 2012. 

The Winding Creek and Oak Forest sanitary sewer line replacement project consists of replacing 3,700 feet of sanitary sewer main line and associated manholes on Winding Creek and Oak Forest.  This project originated as a result of the I&I smoke testing project.  A final walk through was performed this week.  The contractor is working on a small punch list.

Scott Kriston met with BW2 Engineering, Inc. & discussed the status of all open Public Works projects.

The Barnett Connector Road project consists of constructing an east/west concrete road form Barnett Blvd. to The District of Highland Village and associated stormwater infrastructure.  Tiseo Paving is awarded the project.  The new connector road is open to traffic.  Engineering is redesigning the driveway entrance to What a Burger per their request and cost participation.

The 2011 Asphalt Reconstruction and Overlay project consists of overlaying the asphalt roads on Oak Forest and Winding Creek and reconstructing the road on Mosswood.  Advanced Paving is awarded the project.  The contractor completed the reconstruction of Mosswood.  Contractor is working on Oak Forest and Winding Creek.  You should expect traffic delays in the areas of construction. 

The Highland Shores Slope protection project consists of constructing approximately 80-feet of gabion protection along a failed creek bank slope to protect an existing sanitary sewer main located in the Highland Shores 8-E subdivision.  Ark Construction, Inc. was awarded the project.  Staff is obtaining a permit from the US Army COE to begin construction.  The contractor has 60 days to complete the project.

The Water Well Rehabilitation and Upgrade Project consists of rehabilitating the FM407 well and upgrading the Southwood well to bring an anticipated .7 MGD of the City's groundwater supply back into availability for use.  An RFP was issued 2 responces.  Staff held GC interviews this week.  It is scheduled to award a contract on the Jan. 24th Council meeting.

Utility Crews:

  • Unstopped four sewer line blockages.
  • Located six areas of buried utility infrastructure.
  • TV inspected three sanitary sewer lines for areas in need of repair.
  • Made multiple repairs to meter boxes and curb stops for the current AMR Project.
  • Excavated and repaired two sewer lines.
  • Excavated and repaired one water main.
  • Met with Ferguson Waterworks and Datamatic this week and completed AMI site surveys and telemetry installation of AMI network infrastructure.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and leak checks.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Drainage Crews:

  • Completed the replacement of the WYE inlet CMP pipe and headwall in the 100 block of Stone Canyon.
  • Located buried lines in the 300 block of Hickory Ridge for driveway culvert installation.
  • Prepared gabion baskets for deployment for an upcoming creek erosion project in the 400 block of Long Fellow.

Street Crews:

  • Poured a concrete pad at Central Fire Station to park their training trailer.
  • Prepared area to make an asphalt street repair on Snowdon Ct.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

Park staff is involved in campsite repairs at Pilot Knoll Park.

Contractors are beginning baseball field laser grading at Unity Park. 

Staff at Doubletree Ranch Park installed a new water fountain at the pavilion site.

Keegan Arnold and Wes Nienhuser met with a representative of Calsense Irrigation Systems to connect and install controller components at Unity Park.  Staff at Unity Park made repairs to hockey goals on the fields  at that site.

Staff at Brazos Park and Unity Park are adding topsoil and leveling athletic field surfaces.

Fince Espinoza and park staff are completing installation of the Light Guard Cross Walk System on the Trail at Briarhill Blvd. 

Staff at Double Tree Park is removing rocks from the open field areas on the east side of the park.

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

Martha Butz was a panel participant at the HR Compliance Kickoff 2012 sponsored by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) on Tuesday.

Janel McGhee, Jane Ponder, and Jana Onstead participated in New Employee Orientation on Thursday.  Employees in attendance were Firefighter/Paramedics Matthew Bufford and Cody Wooten and Utility Technician Larry Baker.
