TXDOT FM 2499 section 4 project is still an active construction zone. The outer driving lane is closed to traffic; delays and detouring during working hours are to be expected. The posted speed limit is 40 miles per hour and will be enforced.  No parking is allowed in the construction zone.  The contractor is installing the signal at the intersection of FM 2499 and Highland Shores Boulevard / Castlewood Boulevard.  A four-way stop has been installed until the construction of the traffic signal is completed.  The contractor is mowing the r.o.w. as required by their contract as weather permits.

Driver Operator Jared Middleton conducted CPR and First Aid training to local residents and Sergeant Bobby Doyle and Officer Alicia Bautista on Wednesday evening at the Fire Station.

Police:

This week, the police department responded to 159 calls for service, made 142 traffic contacts, made 9 arrests, responded to 2 traffic accidents and performed 369 community policing activities.

BlueLine Services assisted us by providing a computer to families in need from our Highland Village Schools.

The Police Department dropped off over 500 canned goods, 400 jars of peanut butter, and some miscellaneous dry goods at the Lewisville Salvation Army.

Officer Delana Jones passed out over 800 safety packets and 400 childrens packets over the last two weeks while stationed at Walmart and Walgreens. The Police Department has collected over 1500 toys for children in need this holiday season.

Chief Ed O'Bara and the Police Department partnered with Kroger's to provide canned goods to those in need this Christmas. Chief O'Bara matched Kroger's donation of 200 cans towards the cause.

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

Scott Kriston reports that the MSC GC has his subcontractors working on minor punch list items.  Access control & video surveillance are active on the entire site.

The Oak St. GSR site improvements project GC has requested a final walk through.  A final walk through is scheduled for Dec. 15th.  

The 24" / 27" manhole restoration project phase 1.  This project consists of rehabilitating 50 manholes on the City's trunk main along the lake to restore integrity of the manholes and stop the I&I.  The contractor has 6 months to complete the project.  Notice to proceed was delivered.  50 replacement manhole rings & lids were ordered this week.

Scott Kriston met with BW2 Engineering, Inc. & discussed the status of all open Public Works projects.

Scott Kriston held a pre-construction meeting this week for the Dr. Clapp, D.D.S. site located in the market Place at Highland Village development.  The GC anticipates opening the doors to the new Dental office in June 2011.

The Highland Village Road water line replacement project sections 1 & 2.  A final walk through was performed, the contractor has completed the punch list.  This project consisted of replacing approximately 5000 feet of water line along Highland Village Road from Brazos Boulevard to Lake Vista.  Staff is working on closing the project out.

Chinn Chapel Road phase 1 reconstruction contractor is on schedule.  This project is a Town of Copper Canyon project funded through Denton County bonds.  It consists of drainage improvements and road reconstruction on Chinn Chapel from approximatley 100 feet north of FM 407 to Orchid Hill Lane.  The contract has 500 calendar days to final completion.  There will be traffic detours throughout the duration of the project; you should expect traffic delays in the area through April 2011.

Utility Crews:

  • Justin Praesel attended a TEEX Surface Water Production 1 training class in Lewisville to prepare for a higher water license.
  • Located two areas of buried utility infrastructure.
  • Replaced one 2" angle stop on Justin Rd and one old style curb stop on Tanglewood.
  • Took delivery of the 3 mezzanines for the 948 MSC EQU and STR Bldgs.  Assembly will commence next week.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and leak checks.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Drainage Crews:

  • Located utilities for bar ditch maintenance in the 200 block of Lake Vista.
  • Completed bar ditch maintenance and sod to reestablish proper flow in the 500 block of Greenbriar. 
  • Repaired two eroded areas at the retention pond on Quail cove.
  • Repaired the front yard drainage culvert in the 70 block of Remington West.
  • Shot grades on the bar ditches and driveway culverts in the 70 block of Remington West for bar ditch maintenance.
  • Repaired the eroded areas around the headwall in the 700 block Longfellow.

Street Crews:

  • Made concrete street repairs on Lakeside Dr. due to a base failure.
  • Made concrete street patch repairs with flex Crete on Highland Shore Blvd.
  • Installed upgraded street signs with the high retro- reflectivity on Highland Hills Ln. that is mandate by the Federal Highway Administration.
  • Mobilized to started installation of the guardrail per plan on the Spring Oaks Dr. Turn Around Project.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

On Monday, Parks and Ken Heerman met with the entire Senior All-Star group to discuss our new hours of operations and policies and procedures.

On Tuesday, Andra Boxberger and Fince Espinoza met with representatives from the Parks Foundation, Terra Firma Promo, Lake Cities Cross Country and The Medical Center of Lewisville to discuss the upcoming Resolution Run on January 15th.

On Monday, Fince Espinoza met with a representative from BW2 to discuss the Highland Village Road Phase II project.

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

 

Fire:

  • On Wednesday, Nancy Sharp, Vanesa Childers, Patty Hamilton, Angela McClure and Terry Golden attended laser fiche training held in Addison.
  • Chief Tatum, Assistant Chief Collier, Captains Travis Nokes, Vince Jones and Chip Willis, along with FF/P Tony Sorsby and Jared Middleton, attended the monthly Officer's Meeting on Tuesday.

Human Resources:

  • Vanesa Childers attended the DocuNav Solutions laserfiche training in Addison on Wednesday.
  • Vanesa Childers, Martha Butz and Jane Ponder held orientation for Robert Maynard, Streets Supervisor, and Steven Glickman, Senior Accountant.  We are glad to welcome them to our staff.
