Scott Kriston attended the the weekly TXDOT FM 2499 project meeting.  The project status is as follows:  The contractor relocated to the north side of the lake water level for the Poindexter bridge and continues to perform  concrete pours of the bridge spans.  They will continue to pour concrete spans next week starting at 6am.  The pours are expected to last 10 hours each.  The contractor is prepping FM 2499 lanes and intersections for concrete.  They anticipate pouring concrete next Tuesday and Wednesday from the railroad south to FM 407.  The cut outs and intersections will be pour shortly after the main lanes are poured and cured.  

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Sue Thompson attended the monthly Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs meeting.  The speaker was the newly elected Lewisville Mayor Dean Ueckert.  Mayor Ueckert provided an update on "what's happening in Lewisville" including the closing of the Old Town post office, development news related to the DCTA rail station locations and proposed adjacent development.  Sue provided updates on the Red, White and Blue Festival and the acquisition of Doubletree Ranch.  An announcement was made about the Children's Advocacy Center of Denton County holding a grand opening for their new facility on Wednesday, July 15th at 4 PM.  The new facility is located at 1854 Cain Drive (south of FM 407 before Garden Ridge). Everyone is invited. 

PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)

Fire:

  • Highland Village Fire Department responded to 33 calls for service the week of June 12-18th. This includes: 13 medical emergencies, 7 public service calls, 3 residential fire alarms, 5 mutual aid calls, 1 commercial fire alarm, 1 motor vehicle accident, 2 odor investigations, and 1 welfare check.

Police:

  • This week the Police Department responded to 168 calls for service, made 43 traffic contacts, made 6 arrests, responded to 1 traffic accidents and performed 694 community policing activities.

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

Streets:

  • The Street Division poured, finished the concrete and laid new sod for the Central Fire Station's sidewalk.
  • The Street Division moved most of the equipment and supplies to a temporary location while the new service center is under construction. The Street staff will continue to move equipment and supplies to the temporary location next week.

Utility Crews:

  • Cleared two sewer stoppages.
  • Worked with EGW to locate possible hidden water main leaks.
  • Assisted Ace Pipe, Inc. with an emergency sanitary sewer slip line repair in the Highland Shores 15-L subdivision.
  • Responded to two resident emergencies.
  • Flushed 64 dead end of water line blowoffs per TCEQ regulations.
  • Performed meter rereads, water turn on/turn offs, and meter leak checks.
  • Located two areas of utility infrastructure.
  • Flushed and TV inspected one sewer line.
  • Dressed an area where a previous infrastructure repair was made.
  • Installed drainage pipe at the Southwood well lot for the materials storage piles that will be relocated there permanently from the Municipal Service Center site.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

 Drainage Crews:

  • Cleaned up area to store pipe at the Southwood Well lot site.
  • Let 25 lbs. of goldfish go into the St. James and Rolling Hills ponds to combat mosquito populations in the areas.
  • Moved supplies to Southwood Well lot & Lake Vista Well lot to prepare for the proposed MSC construction.
  • Redirected drainage swale for proper flow in the 2000 block of Briarhill.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

On Wednesday, Park's Department personnel proceeded to move field operations equipment to the Doubletree Ranch.  As of Monday the 22nd, field operations will resume at the Doubletree Ranch.

This is the second week of Kids Kamp at Briarhill Middle School.  We take four field trips per week and our camp staff is doing an excellent job.

The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (29 attendees) and Thursday (22 attendees) at the Highland Shores Community Center for game day.

Four Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for social time and games.

On Wednesday, 39 Highland Village Senior All Stars went on the Choctaw Casino trip.

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

 

Human Resources:

  • Martha Butz and Jana Onstead met with the Employee Benefit Committee and representatives from Higginbotham & Associates to discuss wellness initiatives and benefits.

Parks:

  • On Thursday, Parks acquired a new employee. His name is Donald Howrilka and he will be driving the city buses to various events. Welcome Donald, we're very glad to have you join our team!

Fire:

  • Highland Village and Lewisville Fire departments assisted the Dallas Police Department in a dive recovery operation on Lake Lewisville for four days this week. This operation which regarded a recent Amber Alert for a missing child from North Dallas has been called off due to non-recovery.
  • Chief Tatum & ‘B' shift Captain Travis Nokes and crew conducted a tour for a daycare on Thursday. They were from the Flower Mound area and were interested in touring our new Fire Station.

CITY MANAGER / CITY COUNCIL

Mayor Costa, Mayor Pro Tem Combs, and Council Members Meek, Davis and Wilcox attended the Flower Mound Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday at Lantana Golf Club.

Council Orientation was held on Thursday and Friday for new Council Members Wilcox, Davis and Meek.  All city departments gave presentations regarding their department operations.
