Scott Kriston attended the TXDOT FM 2499 phase 4 weekly project meeting this week. The TXDOT FM 2499 project status is as follows:  The railroad completed the railroad crossing.  4 spans of bridge decking forms and jacks are installed on the north bound lanes of the Poindexter bridge.  Due to the weather and the TXDOT concrete specification, the contractor will perform a night concrete pour of the first 4 bridge spans Wednesday night May 13th starting at 9:00 p.m.  The pour is expected to last 10 hours. 

PUBLIC SAFETY (POLICE AND FIRE)

This week the Police Department responded to 183 calls for service, made 59 traffic contacts, made 6 arrests, responded to 2 traffic accidents and performed 477 community policing activities.

STREET / UTILITY DIVISIONS PROJECTS

Scott Kriston attended a pre-bid meeting at the UTRWD office for the Lift Station #1 rehabilitation.  One contractor was present and asked several questions that prompted a second addendum to be issued for the project.

Matthew Kite & Scott Kriston held a Municipal Service Center project status meeting with City supervisory staff this week.  Items discussed were time lines, equipment storage, personnel parking.

Matthew Kite, Scott Kriston & BW2 Engineers attended a TXDOT FM407 utilities relocation meeting this week.  Atmos gas and Verizon infrastructure current locations and proposed relocations was the topic of discussion.

Utility Crews:

  • Responded to eight after hour call outs and five resident emergencies.
  • Made one excavation to repair a sewer line.
  • Flushed 1682 feet of the Lift Station 9 sewer basin.
  • Installed Phase 1 Conservation signs throughout the city.
  • Made 15 water meter change outs.
  • Assisted Parks Dept and Drainage Dept with post storm clean up.
  • Monitored US Underwater Services during our annual water storage tank inspections per TCEQ regulations.
  • Continued moving equipment around in preparation for the construction of the new Municipal Service Center.
  • Performed maintenance on well lots, lift stations, fire hydrants and the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

Street Division:

  • Made some asphalt street repairs located at 24 Horseshoe Drive, 288 Raintree, Rosedale Street @ Briarhill Boulevard, La Mesa Street @ Sellmeyer and 194 Desiree Street
  • Assisted and prepared for the detour of traffic for the closure of the railroad tracks repairs on Village Parkway (FM 2499).
  • Trimmed trees over the streets in the Montclair subdivision. The trees were blocking signs and hitting high profile vehicles.

Drainage Crews:

  • Cleared creek channels and culverts after recent flooding.
  • Completed the pipe extension and headwall project Lower Sellmeyer Park.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

Senior All Stars:

The Highland Village Senior All Stars met on Monday (25 attendees) and Thursday (30 attendees) at the Highland Shores Community Center for game day.

Nine Senior All Stars met on Tuesday for a financial discussion and to learn how to make Hand & Foot Holders.

On Wednesday, twelve Senior All Stars went to the Dallas Museum of Art to see the King Tut exhibit.

The Senior All Stars met at Zone Action Center for the Senior Putt-Putt league on Friday to play against the YMCA and Flower Mound senior groups.

HUMAN RESOURCES / STAFF TRAINING

Police:

  • Chief O'Bara was honored at this year's Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) with an award recognizing his "Outstanding Professional Contributions" to the association and policing in the State of Texas.
  • Corporal April Roppolo attended court training in Richardson.
  • Sergeant Bobby Doyle attended a Leadership and Communications class at Keller Police Department.

CITY MANAGER / CITY COUNCIL

Several members of Council and Staff joined Mayor Costa, Lewisville Mayor Carey, and Flower Mound Mayor Smith at the Annual Mayors' Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday morning at Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville. 

A total of 727 citizens voted during the 7 days of early voting for the Municipal/LISD Election.  The polls will be open on Election Day, Saturday, May 9th from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
