Jury Service
Highland Village Municipal Court of Record does have Jury Trials. If you are a resident of this city you may be summoned to appear and serve as a juror. This court randomly selects jurors. A summons is sent to those selected to appear and serve as a juror for the court. With the recent scam involving juror service the court felt that you should be informed of our process:
- The selection is made from the utility billing list.
- Names are randomly selected.
- When you receive a summons a date and time will be on the summons for you to appear.
- The court will ask you to fill out the summons and claim any exemptions that apply to you.
- The court asks that you bring the summons to court with you or return it by mail or in person, if you are claiming an exemption and will not appear.
- The information is general information such as name, address, Date of Birth, Phone numbers.
Information the court will never ask from a juror:
- Social Security number.
- Drivers License number.
- Credit card, bank information etc.
- The court has no need for this information
- The court will not call you unless you have called and asked the court to return your call.
- On extremely rare occurances the court may call jurors if cases have been settled at the last minute and the court is trying to avoid you appearing unnecessarily.
This court values your time and makes every effort to not inconvenience you if at all possible. The court is very appreciative of your service. Jury Trials are a Constitutional Right to all defendants and when a jury trial is requested, this court will provide that opportunity. We will make every effort to expedite the process and detain you the shortest amount of time possible.
