Who is responsible for pulling the permit?

The person or contractor who will be performing the work usually pulls the permit, however, the owner is ultimately responsible to see that all necessary permits have been issued.

What type of information should I have from the Contractor?

A contractor should provide an appropriate trade license and references and produce an approved permit from the City.

Do I need permit for a water heater?

Yes, a water heater not installed properly could be a hazard.

What kind of fence can I build?

Most all wood and metal fences are acceptable, however, chain link and woven fences are prohibited.

Can I put a fence in my front yard?

Yes, however, only split rail and similar fences are allowed in the front yard and requires approval from the City.

Can I cut a tree down in my yard?

Yes, except a specimen tree, which the City Staff will determine. A specimen tree is a tree which has a circumference of 50%, measured in inches at four and one-half feet (4.5') above ground level, of the same such tree as listed in the most current edition of the Big Tree Registry, (Texas Big Tree Registry - Big trees are a part of our Texas heritage. The Texas Forest Service coordinates the Big Tree Registry program in Texas... as amended, published by the Texas Forest Service, shall be considered a specimen tree. A copy of said registry shall be available for review in the office of Community Services. In addition to the above, a specimen tree shall be any other tree that has been designated by the City Council, upon recommendation by the Tree Board, after the public hearing and due notice to the owner of the tree, to be of high value because of its type, size, age, historical value or relevant criteria.

Who can perform work at my residence?

A licensed contractor who is registered with the City.

Do I need a permit for my storage building?

Yes, please refer to Zoning Ordinance 95-699, Section 34.

How much is my permit, what will my permit cost?

The permit cost is determined by the value of the project. Please refer to Fee Schedule under Ordinance 02-884.

Do I need a permit for a sprinkler?

Yes and a licensed Irrigation Contractor must pull the permit from the City and the backflow must be tested by a Certified Backflow Tester.
