Water Source
The City of Highland Village is committed to meeting the water usage needs of our customers by providing the highest quality of water available.
Highland Village owns and operates five deep wells located throughout the City, and purchases treated drinking water from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD).
Wells
- Well water used by the City is pumped from a natural formation known as the Trinity Aquifer.
- Water passes through porous formations in the ground and enters the aquifer, which contains sand and gravel.
- These porous formations act as natural filters. Their purpose is to trap the suspended particles.
- Water is pumped from the aquifer to the surface using five water wells.
- The water is then disinfected and ready for use.
Purchased Water
- The City subscribes to 3 million gallons a day from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD), which takes water from Lake Lewisville. (Drought conditions and lake level information can be obtained by visiting www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/ ).
- Water delivered to the City is taken from the Elm Fork of Lake Lewisville. The City of Highland Village operates two major pump stations where the purchased water is received and stored before entering our distribution system
