PRESS RELEASEOFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGERCity of Highland Village, TexasJune 27, 2007At the June 26 meeting, Council received the results from a City survey designed to gauge residents’ opinions on future Capital Improvement projects. In 2006 Council appointed a Blue Ribbon Capital Improvement Committee to develop the survey and present recommendations to the City Council to aid in the development of future policy and the City CIP. The Committee hired Creative Consumer Research out of Houston to survey residents. The key findings of the survey showed when desire and cost are considered, no project moved to the top of the list. The survey portrayed Highland Village residents as content in the community as it is and with plans to remain in Highland Village. While no particular project received strong support, 45% of residents expressed a willingness to pay more in taxes for basic infrastructure and amenities. View Survey Results BRCIP Executive Summary Council approved ordinances repealing the requirements for restaurants wishing to serve alcohol to operate as a private club and amended ordinances allowing the sale of beer and wine for off premise consumption. On May 12 Highland Village voters approved two local option elections allowing beer and wine for off-premise consumption in those areas where that is an allowable use and to allow mixed beverages in restaurants in areas incorporated into Highland Village after 1985. These amendments were required to comply with state law and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Code as a result of voter approval of these propositions. Also at this meeting Council approved an amendment to the existing Celebrations monument sign located at FM 407 and Highland Forest Drive. This amendment will allow Celebrations to install an LED sign for the designated use of announcing events held at Celebrations.
