Recap of City Issues June 27, 2008
Sue Thompson reports that the monthly Precinct 3 Task Force meeting, chaired by Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell, was held in Highland Village on June 23rd. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an update on transportation projects in Commissioner Mitchell's Precinct. This meeting was particularly of interest to Highland Village due to the information provided on Section 4 of FM 2499. It was stated that the bid was awarded to Ed Bell Construction for the construction of Section 4 of FM 2499, the pre-construction meeting was held and "notice to proceed" was issued to Ed Bell Construction. The actual construction is anticipated to begin in July, 2008 and estimated completion is July, 2011.

McAuliffe Elementary gym was full of Kids Kamp campers this week. The camp will be underway until August 15, 2008. Last Friday, Assistant Chief
Collier attended the grand opening of the Center of Emergency Preparedness
in Oklahoma City, along with many State officials including the Lt. Governor
for the State of Oklahoma. The Center is one of only a few across the
United States where students can be placed in real life simulation.
Assistant Chief Collier and the City of Highland Village were recognized for
being one of a ten member advisor board for the Center. On Wednesday representatives with the Texas Department of State Health Services conducted an inspection of the Fire Department’s MICU Ambulances, equipment and supplies. Inspections such as these are unannounced and conducted at random throughout the State. The Inspection included the Medic Units as well as equipment and supplies carried onboard. Additionally, the inspection included the storage and inventory of controlled substances, equipment, and supplies for restocking. The inspection went very well.
As part of the 2008 Wastewater Renovations Project, City staff have been locating manholes for inspection of the 27" sewer located in the easement along the Copperas Branch Lake shore line. Last Wednesday City crews were in the specific area of 150 Highland Village Road locating those manholes. Pursuant to a discussion about a sewer overflow complaint, Scott Kriston personally walked the area and saw no evidence of a sewer overflow in the area. Justin Praesel, Utilities Supervisor, contacted the Upper Trinity Regional Water District who reported that they have not been in the area working. The lift station located at the Double Tree Ranch is operating correctly with no evidence of an overflow.
Street Division made repairs to a concrete street base failure that was holding water at 3405 and 3407 Canterbury Street. The water was standing about 5 feet out into the street at this area.
The Street Division installed "No Hand Held Phone Use School Zone Times" in various school zone locations.
Street Division had made repairs to street failure located in front of Briarhill Middle School where the concrete pavement was heaving up from soil movement.
Utility staff repaired 2 water main breaks this week. One on Highland Village Road at Catesby Place and one on Meadow Brook Drive.
The Remington Point Erosion Project is built. The contractor is cleaning up and moving out of the job site area.
The drainage crew finished a concrete flume project in the 900 block of Highland Village Road. They installed a concrete flume connecting the existing culvert underneath Highland Village Road to an existing concrete flume on Mockingbird Lane.
Some Utility staff are locating manholes located on the 27 inch sanitary sewer trunk main located along the Lake edge. Scott Kriston, David Clark and BW2 Engineers are inspecting the condition of the manholes for the development of the 2008 Wastewater Manhole Renovation Project.
Matthew Kite, Ken Heerman, Scott Kriston and Heather Castillo met with the UTRWD to discuss the rehabilitation of the existing lift station located at the old Double Tree Ranch.
Scott Kriston and BW2 Engineers met with the contractor who is building the FM2499 Utility Relocation Project to discuss finishing & closing out the project. The Highland Village Fire Department had 13 calls for service the week of June 20-26, including eight medical emergencies, one motor vehicle accident, one structure fire, one public service, one fire alarm and one odor investigation call.
Jana Onstead held a Safety Committee meeting on Tuesday. The committee discussed the accident review process, committee structure and meeting schedules. The committee members are Billy Spencer, Charles Mitchell, Bill Parsons, David Clark, Sam Smith, and Tommy White.
On Wednesday Jana Onstead attended an HR Workshop in Frisco.
On Thursday Karen Bradley, Lori Wright, Sandy McCoy, Shelly Clark, Nancy Sharp, Vanesa Childers and Diane Callahan attended the seventh series of the Customer Service Training in Corinth called “Dealing with Negaholics.”
On Wednesday Tom Rollins, Justin Praesel, Vince Jones and Tim Moehlman attended the fourth series of the Supervisory Training in Keller called “Effective Interpersonal Communication”.
Erica Landry is helping out in the Parks and Recreation Department on a temporary basis until the Administrative Assistant position is filled. Thanks for all your help, Erica!

Congratulations to Larry Jeurink, Darren Dodd & Gabe Doria for obtaining their Class 1 Wastewater Collections licenses issued by the TCEQ.
Mayor Pro Tem McDearmont attended the Radio Disney Family Music Break 2008 held at The Shops at Highland Village on Saturday, June 21st.
The Precinct 3 Meeting was held in the Council Chambers on Monday, June 23rd with Mayor Costa, Mayor Pro Tem McDearmont, and Council members Adams and Combs in attendance.
Tuesday morning, Mayor Costa met with Dr. Kerry Webb at City Hall.
A Special Meeting of City Council was held at the Fire Station Training Room on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) 5-Year Plan as the budget process for Fiscal Year 2008/2009 got underway.
