Election Information

 

Election Day - May 10, 2008

This year, the ballot will include the general election of Highland Village elected officials for Places 1 (mayor), 2, 4 and 6 and Lewisville Independent School District Board of Trustees for Places 6 and 7.  The ballot will also include two proposed bond propositions for the Lewisville Independent School District.  The polling location—Municipal Complex, 1000 Highland Village Road—will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Please see below for the sample ballot.  If you have any questions regarding the bond propositions, please refer to www.lisd.net or call 469.948.8022. 

Early voting for the May 10, 2008 election will be conducted during week days beginning April 28, 2008 – May 6, 2008 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  There will be extended voting hours on May 5 and May 6 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  In addition to the main early voting polling location at the Municipal Complex; any eligible Denton County registered voter may cast their vote at any early voting site within Denton County.  Please refer to the link located to the right—additional early voting and remote polling locations. 

Citizens are encouraged to bring their voter registration cards with them to the polling location.  To determine if you are registered to vote in Denton County please click here.  You should have received your new voter registration card (orange), which replaces the yellow registration card that expired on December 31, 2007.  If you have any questions regarding your registration card, please contact Denton County Elections Division at 940.349.3200.

Vote Early by Mail

A registered voter is eligible for early voting by mail if the voter meets at least one of the following criteria:

(1) Out of the county

The voter will be out of the county of the voter’s residence on Election Day and during the hours of voting at the main early voting polling place during the part of the period for early voting by personal appearance remaining after the voter’s early voting ballot application is submitted to the city secretary.  If the voter does not submit the application before early voting by personal appearance begins, the voter is ineligible for early voting by mail unless the voter is absent from the county when the application is submitted. 

(2) Disability

The voter has an illness or physical condition that prevents the voter from appearing at the polling place on Election Day

(3) Age

            The voter is 65 years of age or older on Election Day

(4) Confinement in jail

            The voter is confined in jail at the time the application is submitted:

(a)   serving a misdemeanor sentence for a term that ends on or after election day;

(b)   pending trial after denial of bail;

(c)   without bail pending an appeal of a felony conviction; or

(d)   pending trial or appeal on a bailable offense for which release on bail before Election Day is unlikely.

Last day for incumbent to file for different place other than what is being held by incumbent.  The resignation will be deferred and become effective after the City Election (per City Charter).
