FEMA Map Modernization

Highland Village has recently received the new preliminary FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for Denton County.  These maps reflect the special flood hazard areas in our community.  The new maps are a result of a federal initiative to modernize and digitally format the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) maps nationwide. The preliminary release includes a listing of previously filed LOMA (Letter of Map Amendment) and LOMC (Letter of Map Change) cases.  If you have previously filed a LOMA or LOMC please check the Preliminary Summary of Map Actions to be sure that your LOMA or LOMC are included.  The accuracy of this list of LOMAs and LOMCs and the FIRM will affect the insurance rates of many citizens in our community.  To determine if flood insurance is available or required in your portion of the community, please contact your insurance agent or call the National Flood Insurance Program at 1-800-638-6620.

The final community coordination meeting, on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the Mary and Jim Horn Government Center, in Denton, is the last of several meetings which have been part of a major coordination over the past two years to develop a new set of flood maps for all of the communities in Denton County.  After this meeting we will have 90 days to submit any appeals.

The preliminary FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps are available for the public to view at the GIS division of the Public Works Department at the Municipal Complex, 1000 Highland Village Road.
