A specimen tree is a tree which has a circumference of 50%, measured in inches at four and one-half feet (4.5') above ground level, of the same such tree as listed in the most current edition of the Big Tree Registry, (Texas Big Tree Registry - Big trees are a part of our Texas heritage. The Texas Forest Service coordinates the Big Tree Registry program in Texas... as amended, published by the Texas Forest Service, shall be considered a specimen tree. A copy of said registry shall be available for review in the office of Community Services. In addition to the above, a specimen tree shall be any other tree that has been designated by the City Council, upon recommendation by the Tree Board, after the public hearing and due notice to the owner of the tree, to be of high value because of its type, size, age, historical value or relevant criteria.
